Three Eight Patch Quilts
at the finish line on the clothes line.
Eight patches were made from 2.5 x 3.5 inch rectangles - four each in two different fabrics. I made these as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge project for over a year. I first cut some rectangles when the scraps happened (either 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch widths) and put them into the Parts Department. Then after that each month I matched up scraps in the RSC color of the month to some of the rectangles in Parts Department and made Eight Patches. After I had a big pile of them I decided to see how many quilts I could make.
All are quilted with spirals and swirls on my DSM with a natural colored thread.
This month's theme in the sewing room has been KIDS! KIDS! KIDS! and I've been working on quilts to donate for kids. Some will be donated locally and some will go to Quilts Beyond Borders and go to a variety of initiatives. A few will be held back for gifts because we come from a large family and someone is always having a baby. I think the grandchild generation for us is about coming to a close and the great grandchild generation is slowly starting. Also this year I hope to send a box of quilts to any children's charity listed at GiveBackBox that accepts quilts.
And now follows some pics of the three quilts.

ReplyDeleteI love them! what a great use of scraps
ReplyDeleteAwesome job , as usual, Cathy! And the kids, wherever, will be blessed!
ReplyDeleteSimple pattern is often the best. I love them, and the way you are using scraps. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful trio! And thanks for the links for places to donate quilts.
ReplyDeleteThree stunning quilts! Who would have thought that 8 pieced rectangle blocks could make such great quilts? Of course you have a fun variety of fabrics in bright contrasting colours which immediately catch the eye. Love all the backing too. Well done Cathy. You must have quite a pile of finishes waiting for donation now.
ReplyDeleteThey are all pretty and I'm sure the kids will love them. You are getting a lot accomplished this month.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is how to brighten a dreary winter day - three times over!!! Love them all.
ReplyDeleteSo simple, but so effective and colourful! Kids will love them to bits.
ReplyDeleteTremendous effort Cathy with these lovely quilts.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, colorful quilts, Cathy! I have no idea how you can get so many done in such little time. They are wonderful kid quilts. Job well done!
ReplyDeleteAren't they wo derful, three lovely colourful quilts!
ReplyDeleteLove the bright color contrasts first, & no whites (that I remember). Love the simplicity of a 2.5” strip. Love the speed at which one could get to the finish (if not doing it at a RSC pace). —Laura Haynes
ReplyDeleteWhat fun backing fabrics. Congratulations on having so many finishes on the line.
ReplyDeleteThese are super great and a cheerful way of using scraps. I am going to try it in the future.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
