It's A Finish! : Enchanted Mountains

It's a finish!
Enchanted Mountains
60 x 74

I started it in October 2019. My intent was to use a little pile of Kaffe Collective fabrics I had collected over the years.

It was a finished top a whole year later in November 2020. Not sure what took me so long. I'm easily sidetracked I guess. Or maybe I was afraid to see the little box of fabrics I had been hoarding disappear.

But now I can enjoy those fabrics every day. I couldn't when they were tucked away in a shoe box.  I was traveling last month - 6 hours round trip in the car - so I decided to get this quilt into the hoop so I could work on it in the car.

First I did big stitch hand quilting in the solid triangles with perle cotton #8 in a color close to the solid color. I stitched about 1/4 inside the triangles along the seam lines.

Then I used a variety of different colors of regular hand quilting thread and hand quilted leaves in the diamonds. I used a stencil and chalk to mark the leaves.

I didn't have quite enough of one fabric for a backing so had to add a piece of a different fabric. Both are rainbow type fabrics but one is pastel and one is bright.

I had enough of the bright rainbows to use for the binding.

  1. What a great quilt, Cathy! I wouldn’t have picked out that this was made by you, different style I think. Love how the hand quilting shows up so clearly on the back of the quilt. I hope you are keeping this one for yourself.

  3. Great looking quilt! I also have some Kaffes to use up; not enough for a full quilt but I could combine them with some Tula Pinks or other brights I have.

  8. I love this, what a great use of these fabrics. I never work with saturated colours like this, just don't have them in my stash but I admire those who do use them.

  9. i love it! That is an excellent point about being able to enjoy the fabrics in a quilt instead of in your stash. I love that, too!

  18. Such a neat quilt! I am an avid KF fabric collector, and even though I've made many quilts with his fabrics, I have huge tubs yet to use! What a great plan for quilting - very creative.

  20. Wow, that's a beauty, the colours glow and pulse with life! Goid on you quoting on car journeys, dont think I could manage that. But I do like to knit in the car, so much often gets done on car trips away.

  21. Wow! Your Enchanted Mountains is a vision! Love all the Kaffe fabrics you have selected. So much better to have them all dancing on a quilt for you to enjoy than stored away somewhere. Love too, the fabulous backing. Quilting leaves among the diamonds is an inspired thought. The binding too, in all its different colours, dancing around the edge is the perfect finishing touch to your gorgeous quilt. Congratulations on a most beautiful finish!

  24. Super finish! And beautiful photos.
I can understand why you didn't want to use up your treasure fabrics, but now those treasures are all over your quilt, easier to see and touch!
