There have been a lot of misty moisty mornings (and afternoons and evenings) around here lately. And it is so humid I feel like a raincloud is hanging over my head while I'm sitting at the sewing machine. Everything feels wet. It's been too wet to work out in the gardens this week but I have managed to go out in between raindrops to take a few photos of the lilies in bloom. I have lilies of all sorts - daylilies, asiatic lilies and oriental lilies and new this year I have orienpet (or tree) lilies that are a cross between oriental and trumpet lilies. The rain is supposed to stop tomorrow and it is supposed to get a little cooler so gardening will resume after that. The gardening will probably consist of lots of weed pulling. And to think I was all caught up on my weeding before these rains. But we needed the rain. We were in a drought but I think we are out of it now. The Iowa cornfields are now knee high and it's almost the Fourth of July. And that's a good thing!
So without further ado...the lilies in bloom in my garden this week...

ReplyDeleteA wonderful variety of lilies. The daylilies are budded and ready to bloom if the deer don't come and eat the buds, before I can spray deer repellent again. It's been too hot and windy to spray. The rain has danced all around us, but nothing has fallen in 10 days, so everything is drooping again. I no longer have any asiatic or oriental lilies because of the red lily beetles who wiped out all them over about 3 years. I finally got almost all of the dahlias planted until I ran out of places to put them (and then it got god awful hot again. So not much blooming here right now, but there are buds on the zinnias and the cone flowers are starting.
