Whigmaleerie
It's a finish!
60 x 84
Whigmaleerie - an odd or fanciful contrivance.
I finished the top over a year ago and now it has finally made it to the finish line. I have a bin of 4.5 inch unfinished blocks, swapped and made from scraps over the years, and pulled out the blues and purples for this top. I also added in some blue and purple orphan blocks.
I quilted it on my DSM with swirls in a denim blue thread.
I made the binding of blue and purple scraps last year when I was clearing out my 2.5 inch scrap box. I made several bindings at that time if the pieces in the box were long. I cut my bindings at 2.5 if I am going to sew them down by hand and at 2.25 if I am going to sew down by machine.
The back.
A while ago someone gave me that fun panel. I set it aside wondering how to use it. When I made Whigmaleerie I knew the panel would be perfect for the back.
It was not quite large enough so I had to add in a few other pieces.
And now Whigmaleerie is ready for giving or gifting.
Fabulous! That is my kind of scrap quilt with all the various blocks and sizes fit together.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt and way to use up leftover blocks! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteAwesome quilt and a wonderful name! I love the wintery photos!!
ReplyDeleteScrappy joy, Cathy -- and the snowy backdrop shows it off so well!
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE it! So many places for your eyes to wander and it's drawn all over the quilt. Super scrappy which makes it all the more wonderful.
ReplyDeletePerfect photo op for a fabulous quilt! You do the best quilts with your myriad of blocks!
ReplyDeleteAmazing quilt
ReplyDeleteI love orphan block/sampler type quilts. This one was the perfect color for the snowy backdrop. Great use of the panel in the backing.
ReplyDeleteLove the blues and purples against the snow. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYou always do such an amazing job of putting scraps and orphan blocks together! And you are right; the backing is perfect for the quilt! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful winner of a quilt - and the snowy photos are just great. (you keep finding such cool words to name your quilts - love this one!)
ReplyDeleteOh Cathy, I want to make one of these quilts!!! Whigmaleerie is beautiful, such a lot going on in there I doubt that I have enough in my box of left overs from other quilts, at least not all based on one colour but I guess with the amount of fabric on my shelves and I can add as you have done. I love it!
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful collection of blocks!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it was planned this way, but, boy, wouldn't that be a lot of work. I've seen others use a panel as part of the back and I must remember that for the future. I love your whimsical names.

Now that's a Scrap Happy quilt! Nothing goes to waste and how good does that feel?!? Also love that you were even able to use up all the accumulated binding scraps.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love all of those blues, and especially against the snowy background! The design looks really well balanced too and that backing is perfect for it! Which DSM did you quilt it on?
ReplyDeleteThank you for a bit of cheer on a cloudy day, Cathy! This quilt brought a smile to my face with it's hodgepodge of quilt blocks.
ReplyDeleteI was enjoying the quilt on the background of snow and scrolled down for a surprise. I love the back. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis is just a fun quilt!! all those pretty blues together in all those amazing patterns!! What fun this one will be for the recipient - they will keep discovering things all the day!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have enough orphans to do this yet, but I'll keep it in mind. Looks so fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun blue quilt! I love all the scrappy blocks puzzled together! That would be a great quilt to keep someone busy looking at everything going on there! Good on you for the finish!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt with a whimsical name. Did you make the name up or is there a "secret" meaning?
ReplyDeleteLove love love it!!
ReplyDeleteMy kind of quilt!
