It's a finish!
Serendipity
61 x 85
I started this in May 2019. You can read in that blog post about the reason I started making it, how it got the name Serendipity, how I made my blocks, how I DIDN'T make my blocks and the vintage quilt that inspired mine. I think the block is a Stone Mason's Puzzle variation.
I had so much fun making it that I finished the flimsy a few months later in September 2019.
I quilted it on my DSM with swirls. Since my "neutral" in this quilt was blue-green (aqua, turquoise, teal) and since I had a partial spool of blue-green thread I used that on top. I had a partial spool of variegated blue thread I used in the bobbin.
I had just enough of this fabric in my backings stash. I had to piece it and I'm glad I didn't have any cut up birds where I did the piecing although there are a few bird butts sticking out on the left hand side that I could not avoid.
I think you can see the swirly quilting a little better in this photo.
Congratulations Cathy! I love the dynamic playfulness of this. I think it's amazing and wonderful when joining blocks together gives a secondary design.
ReplyDeleteAnother fabulous quilt. As you finish each one I cannot believe how each one is so lovely. The dark colours emphasising the crosses really draw the eye. Super finish, Cathy.
ReplyDeleteAnother amazing Cathy-style finish! As always! I’m awe struck! I need to remember that neutral doesn’t always need to me white or cream! Loving the aqua!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out beautifully, Cathy! I went back and read how you figured out a way to make the blocks that made them easier - such a good idea! Love the backing, too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I really love the eclectic feel of the fabric mix in your quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful finish, the fabrics flow so well together.
ReplyDeleteWow, another super finish, and I love the back just as much as the front! Always wonderful when that happens.
ReplyDeleteSee, I told you! And here you are with another finished quilt! I love the backing! If you don't slow down, you're going to hit 500, rather than 400 this year! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your super scrappy finish. LOVE it! Went back to check out the construction method you used. Color me SEW surprised!
ReplyDeleteFabulous! Looks like a fun quilt. Love the scrappy blocks and your color palette.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I went back to your previous post for a refresher on how to build this block...you make it look easy! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I love this quilt and of course I went back to the original post and now I want to do one. Who knows if I will? I'm finishing up two tops right now and have bookmarked 3 for "next". This might be THE one. You are so clever!
ReplyDeleteOH, that is gorgeous! i love every thing about it :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool quilt and such a pretty backing. Love your swirly quilting - you should be most pleased with the end result!
ReplyDeleteAnother super colorful quilt, but I confess, I love the backing the most. It's gorgeous.

I remember this one! Great to see it finished. Great backing fabric, too. All those cool blues and aquas are very soothing in the heat of the summer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful quilt. Happily, I haven’t gotten my eyes checked in quite awhile so all I see are log cabin blocks (uncentered). And I am a bit sad that you didn’t honor the original and leave it as a quilt top.
ReplyDeleteThat is just another spectacular quilt! The colour work is amazing and the binding is perfect for it!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on that. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, colorful quilt! Your idea for making the blocks like a spider web is genius! You could make up a pattern for sale. Why not?
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt. Terrific backing -- it's great when there's just enough! And a great block design.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful quilt! I just joined the stashbuster group and decided to click over to your blog - now I follow you! Love your posts and all the quilts you are making/have made. And your butterfly photos. Congrats on this finish - I have never seen a quilt of this pattern before and you have me itching to make one too :)
ReplyDeleteWow! What a beautiful finish. Bright, bold and perfection. It seems like 2019 was so long ago...yet it wasn't...this was well worth finishing and I bet you are glad you did!
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with a spare bird butt or two...
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten about this one, but I'm soooo glad you've finished it! What a stunner!
(Now I'm going to go re-read your original post about it and try not to start one of my own!)
I love how you put this one together--so creative! It turned out so lovely beautiful work hugs from afar, Julierose
ReplyDeleteReally pretty finish and I love that backing fabric!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors in this one. What a grea finish!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
Another amazing quilt! Your use of bright colors makes it so vibrant and cheerful. One minute I see plusses, then Bento boxes, the quarter logs (with mitered corners a la Cathy style). Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteYour Serendipity quilt is gorgeous! Perfect pattern to show off those gorgeous fabrics and I especially love your backing with the birdies. So nice when the backing is deliberate rather than an afterthought!
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful quilt - all the fabrics really play so nicely - and are so bold together!!
ReplyDeleteLove Love Love this quilt. Today I made one block per your previous instructions. You are so clever. I can't wait to do more.
