The Blues
It's a flimsy!
60 x 80
It will be a donation quilt when finished.
Last year I worked on my crumb scraps and did pretty well with that so early December I decided I wanted to work on strings and selvages this year. I don't cut strips for strings. They mostly come from quilt back trimmings and the end of fabric pieces that don't fit any size scrap I keep in a bin - for instance 1 inch and 1 3/4 inch would go into the string box but 1.5 and 2 inch scraps would go into their respective scrap boxes.
In December I sorted the strings into different piles for use in different string quilts. This flimsy is the result of the low volume blues and grays.
I cut our small town newspaper into ten inch squares to use for the foundations.
I used a consistent fabric for the center (well, almost in the center most of the time) string. I actually did cut some 2 inch strips of that blue floral stripey fabric for those "centers". I had to piece some of those strips together in order to have enough "centers".
Now the remainder of this pile of strings will join some other low volume strings for some string hearts.
Just a lovely flimsy--love those blues...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteThis one just may be my favorite of all the quilts you've made! Sometime in 2019 I need to make a string quilt; you've inspired me! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteThese soft colors are so beautiful. It will be relaxing and soft in a bedroom.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what can be made from scraps! I love that you've got enough blues and grays to make this gorgeous quilt top. I hope we see it finished in 2019. Thank you for linking up to the Peacock Party.
ReplyDeleteString Quilts are always a hit in my book and your blue and grey strings flimsy is beautiful. I love the use of a consistent "centre" and the pops of yellow and red that flash through the paler blues and greys. A definite winner!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love strings!! This is so
ReplyDeletepretty in soft blues, and I like the idea of putting the same fabric in the center of each block. I have a couple of string tops waiting to be quilted, but I’m waffling on how to do them. How do you like to quilt string quilts?
So gorgeous! I do think it would be perfect for hand quilting with a big stitch in blue threads!!!
ReplyDeleteA lovely soft looking quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome use of your scrappy strings--love it!
ReplyDeleteStringing the blues! You make the best use of leftovers!
