I have finally completed all 81 of the ten inch Crazy Lady of the Lake blocks.
This has been a RSC project for a few years. Each month I made a few blocks from scraps in the color of the month. Here's the ones I just made that use blue scraps.
And here's the final six blocks.
Now I'm ready for assembly. The quilt that inspired this was a vintage one and when I was looking at it again a few days ago I noticed it was set on point. I'm not sure I'm going to do that. There are many ways to set the blocks in regard to the orientation of the dark and light in the blocks. I may actually have to use the rarely used design floor and dither a bit before I decide what to do.
A lot of the centers (six inch HSTs) for Crazy Lady of the Lake are leftover HST halves from this 2014 Basket Bounty (Cake Stand blocks) quilt I made. The rest of the Crazy Lady centers came from the scrap chunk crate. All of the smaller HSTs were made from 2.5 inch scraps.
Every time I see your LOTL blocks, I am reminded of my first class at JCCFS and vow that I am going to make a super scrappy version . . . so far, the bucket list is as far as I've gotten. Your blocks are GORGEOUS!!
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing those crazy lady blocks! They are a lot of scrappy fun!
ReplyDeleteReally colorful Lady of the Lake. It will be fun to see how you set it. Sure to be a winner no matter what.
ReplyDeleteAre your scrappy ladies all on the cool side, or just the blocks you've made? I've made three LOTLs, all different. It's a versatile block. What really caught my eye is that basket quilt -- love the vibrant colors!
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely vintage-style quilt in the process. Love all those purples and blues.
ReplyDeleteOh that basket quilt is stunning!
ReplyDeleteit must feel good, and weird, to be coming to an end with Lady blocks. I really liked the small thumbnail photo in the link party, as if only shared color not pattern, and felt so like Fall. The actual block is interesting because of the actual pattern. But... the cake stand quilt... magnificent in color intensity, line, balance. It's a true rainbow. I think they way you did balance the color allows us to really see the lines of it.
ReplyDeleteThe basket quilt is very pretty, and I love your Lady of the Lake blocks. I wish I could put scraps together just half as well as you do. You always amaze me! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteLove the Lady blocks! I have made only ONE--years ago; and set it as a pillow for my Mom--in light blue and cream hst's...that one used hand stitching--before all machine work .... yours are just so vibrant and pretty hugs, and congrats Julierose
ReplyDeleteOh my, I can feel myself falling for those crazy LOTL blocks. Your blocks and quilts (that basket quilt!) are always so happily charged with color. Thanks once again for a squirrel, I mean INSPIRATION moment!
ReplyDeleteYour LOL quilt will be beautiful but I'm in total love with Basket Bounty! Your balance of color and placement in this quilt is superb.
ReplyDeleteShe's not crazy, she's "eccentric." Ladylike with a bit of unconventional flair :)
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look great but that basket quilt.....Wow!
ReplyDeletegreat inspiration for scrappy love
ReplyDeleteJust great. Love the Lady...
