I Spy #1 of 5
40 x 60
Ready to give as a shower gift next Saturday
(I just need to go buy a couple of books to include with the quilt. Books and a quilt...sometimes a stuffed animal or rattle are my usual baby gifts. )
I spy the color green, I spy something you can eat, I spy a bird, I spy the letter P...
I usually also include a couple of blocks with numbers at the beginning and end so you can find numbers. The letters of the alphabet are iron on. I iron them on after the quilting is done.
I quilted it with spirals on my old plain Jane Janome since Brother Bob is not working very well these days. I pieced together some batting and used some flannel monkeys on the back. I pre-washed the flannel since I knew it would shrink and darn it if it didn't shrink enough so that I was about one inch short in width so had to piece the backing. Luckily I bought enough for several quilts.
I had just enough of an orange solid that matched the orange monkeys on the back so used it for the binding.

The idea behind these kind of quilts is so cool! I sometimes wish I was a quilter when my children were young! Beautiful finish!
ReplyDeletethis is a great quilt! thanks for sharing... I plan on keeping this one in mind for my grandchildren!
ReplyDeleteFabulous quilt, that is one lucky kiddo!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun quilt! And a perfect gift!
ReplyDeleteYes, that's happened to me too, when the pre-wash takes something that I thought was plenty big, and makes it too small! But, you coped, and it's a great finish! It looks wonderfully cozy to me. :D
ReplyDeleteThat's such a fun finish and will be a great gift! I like the way you organized the blocks with the sashings the same along the diagonal.
ReplyDeleteSo many fun fabrics in this one. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteit is lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! on your newly completed quilt. LOVE the scattered alphabet. It gives the quilt a more whimsical look.
ReplyDeleteAnother great quilt finish. Love the pattern the colours your block frames make. I haven't seen iron on alphabet letters. Must look for some. Do they stand up to lots of washing?
ReplyDeleteI Spy a perfect shower gift!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteOne of the best I Spy quilts I've seen. Having the numbers and letters will keep the little one interested for a longer time. I taught my day the letters at under a year old. And she's never stopped reading.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun baby quilt! Love those iron on letters, those add even more fun.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great quilt! Now I want to start hoarding, um, collecting, novelty fabrics sorted by letter of the alphabet :)
ReplyDeleteLot of fun and hours to be spend looking at all the interesting pictures. Well done.
ReplyDeleteReally cute finish! I like to prewash all of my fabrics and I do find that some really shrink a lot more than others.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt! I have made several I-spy-quilts but never with the letters and in alpha order. I had trouble enough to find special fabric. That is incredible.
ReplyDeleteFun quilt and perfect baby gift ! Thanks for participating in the 2017 FAL, visiting on behalf of the 2017 FAL cheerleading team.
