String Stars
86 x 98
Hand quilted with navy perle #8
The pattern is from
The background looks like a solid but it is actually navy with light blue dots arranged in saltine cracker fashion. It's actually called Ghost Saltine by Cotton + Steel.
The stars are made mostly of quilt back trimmings.
I didn't mark any quilting lines...I just quilted...with navy perle #8
Here's the back. I had to fill in with a few scrap pieces because I didn't have enough of the backing fabric in my stash. I cut some red Kona for the binding but didn't cut quite enough pieces. When I got almost finished sewing on the binding to the front I found I was about 8 inches short of binding so I substituted a piece of leftover red polka dot binding.
I used Hobbs Heirloom Cotton Batting. I like to use that for my hand quilted quilts.
I think this is ready to go on my bed this winter.
Lots and lots of scraps in this one so linking up to Oh Scrap! at Quilting is More Fun than Housework and to Scraptastic Tuesday
Lots of hand quilting on this one too so linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching at Kathy's Quilts
Congratulations, Cathy! I love this one. I've been thinking of making one big Lone Star string star, but this is a tempting alternative. And that navy background is really lovely too. This will keep you warm in more ways than one this winter!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! The navy background really makes the colors pop. String quilts are so much fun aren't they? I want to try big stitch quilting with perle cotton but I have trouble using a hoop and getting the stitches to show up on the back. Did you use a hoop?
ReplyDeleteReally wonderful. Now I'm going to have to do bright stars too!

ReplyDeleteOh this is just gorgeous! I love the way your stars shine on the dark background. Did you hand piece the diamonds? You're giving me ideas for the Epp one I've just started - which is very naughty, because I'm meant to be doing so many other things first, haha!
