Red Scraps So Far

Triangle Star
18 3/4 inches

When I looked at the odd sized red scraps I had to use I wasn't sure what to use for the lights and almost reached for the pink scraps. Then I noticed I had quite a few red/white scraps so used those as the light.

I made four more 10 inch postage stamp blocks.   I now have 19 blocks.  I'm not sure what to call them but I was inspired by a quilt on ebay.   The seller called it a vintage Roman Stripe.  But I don't think it is a Roman Stripe. But I'm no expert.

Vintage Roman Stripe quilt inspiration from ebay.

I'm aiming for a large quilt and have some yellow/brown plaid fabric set aside for the sashing. Hope I have enough of it at assembly time.

I made some 4 x 8 inch flying geese from my 4.5 inch scraps.   For these I've been digging into my 4.5 inch scraps in the RSC color of the month for the geese center and when the color is a primary I have used secondary colors for the goose sides.

Also from 4.5 inch scraps I made some of these stack and whack units.  There's several ways to arrange these. This is not one of those ways but pretty much resembles the disarray of my mind these days.

Now I think I only have my 2.5 inch red scraps to tackle.

Got Scraps? Then join the fun.

  1. It's fun looking at all of your red fabrics! I'm really drawn to the red plaid in your star block. Hoping your husband and SIL are hanging in there.

  7. First, I hope things are looking up and going well (or at least much better) for your family. Most of us wouldn't have a mind left, disarrayed or otherwise. The triangle star is gorgeous, as always. It looks as though it can be constructed without any set-in seams (?). And those Roman Stripe blocks look awesome - a great way to use up 1.5-inch scraps for a great piecer like you! xo

  8. Perhaps that last photo is meant to be just exactly that kind of quilt and its name Disarray. Sending hugs for the coming week.

  11. Your red star absolutely sparkles! Love all the projects. I would call that so-called roman stripe look a waffle weave to me, but I don't think that is an official name of a pattern.

  12. The red and white prints were the perfect choice. Love the gingham and the polka dots. Your production this week is amazing and everything so delightfully scrappy! Keep up the good work.

  13. The gingham and stars are a nice touch for your red star, but the snowmen made me laugh. And I love your vintage inspiration and can hardly wait to see your finished quilt.

  14. This is my favorite Traingle Star that you have made so far!!! Of course, once you put them all together, they will all be my favorite! Love that block!

  15. The stack and whack squares are fun. Do you need to rearrange them symmetrically? What would happen if you left them jumbled? I like them the way they are! That being said, we crave order and certainty in our seemingly disordered world; it's your quilt and you are free to put it together however you want, whatever the moment calls for.

  16. The gingham bits work really well in your red star, and I love the yellow background.

  18. I don't think I'd have the courage to try that star block. Yours really pops with the red-on-yellow colorway. I've made two quilts with 1.5" postage stamps and strips. I called them Waffle Stamps.

  20. Such colorful projects, it's always nice to visit and see what you are making. My two favorites the Roman Stripes; I think it's going to look fantastic. The stack and wack look like a lot of fun to make!!
