OMG: Mission Accomplished !!!

Broken Wheels
A flimsy (for now).

My One Monthly Goal (OMG) that I declared earlier in the month (make this quilt top) has been accomplished and has resulted in a Broken Wheel quilt top 53 x 66.

Last year I joined two different birthday clubs and this year I joined one. Everyone in the group asks for a particular block in particular colors to be sent to them in their birthday month.   I received 24 or 25 different blocks and used 20 of them in this quilt that I thought played well together.  I'll use the others in a couple of other quilts so they aren't going to go to waste. That's for sure!

The block I asked for was the Broken Wheel block from Quilter's Cache.  Most of the other ladies ask for their blocks to be made in specific colors but  I said, " make the block in the colors of your choice on a neutral background of your choice."    I really didn't know what to expect so every block was a surprise.  I kind of thought it was a psychology test of sorts. Do the colors the ladies chose for my block say something about them?

At any rate... I didn't have to make a single block - I just added a thin sashing and I have a quilt top that I now need to decide how to quilt. Suggestions?  Hand quilting or FMQ?  First, though, I guess I need to decide on a backing (and a goal for next month).

  1. It looks great Cathy! I'm not much help when it comes to the quilting plan because I enjoy both and I think either will work on this quilt top. Of course, machine quilting is quicker. :)

  2. That narrow sashing is perfect - just enough to set off the blocks, without it taking all the attention. Terrific top!
So, did the ladies choose colors they liked, or colors they thought *you* would like...

  3. I like you're arrangement with the narrow sashing: you've given the blocks pride of place. I've just been trying to find an answer to Gayle's question by looking back at your recent posts. Of course I don't know the answer but I think it highlights an interesting issue about what criteria we use when choosing fabric for quilts for other people.

  4. Looking good! If it's not too big, FMQ shouldn't be too hard?

  5. Beautiful! I am amazed how well the fabrics look together, without having given any preferences! Quilting decisions are hard for me, but I look forward to seeing what you decide!

  7. That's a quick quilt! I'm intrigued now at the idea of colours telling you about the people who made the blocks - I'll be sitting here now trying to see what I can work out. :-)

  8. Hard to believe it was made by a group of people as the blocks play so well together. The thin sashing was the best way to link all of them. Congrats on accomplishing your goal. ;^)

I vote for hand quilting of course!

  10. I love the scrappiness of this quilt. Beautifully done, the simple sashing sets off and unifies the designs at the same time.

  11. What a beautiful quilt top this turned out to be. Choosing a block that has so many on-point sections is brave when there are many different people sewing them. I'm glad it worked out so well. I'm looking forward to seeing it finished, regardless of whether it gets on the slow train or the fast train for quilting.
