String Orchestra

48 x 56
It needs to go into the washing machine and dryer and then into the donation quilt box.

I made 48 string blocks from scraps last year and part of this year as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

I normally use muslin as the foundation for my string blocks but this time I used paper and made 8 inch blocks.
Twenty-four blocks was enough for two child-size donation quilts.
(Yes, every once in a while I forget which way I'm spiraling in case you noticed).

I quilted it with some spirals on my plain Jane Janome. Binding was attached by machine - not my favorite look or binding method but it is recommended for some children's quilts especially if they are going to foreign countries.

This was my goal #9     for  Q3 Finish Along with Adrianne of On the Windy Side.
At the end of the month I will link up to Julie's Binding Blitz.

In the meantime I'm linking up to:

  6. Now that is some color! I started a few string blocks last night. I need to keep making a few each week so I can get my scrap box top closed again. Too many ideas and not enough time!

  7. The name was so funny for this I had to come over from the email. Sorry about not commenting more but I just read your posts on email. I enjoy a string quilt so much, and this one is so cheerful and fun. You get so much done. LeeAnna at not afraid of color

  8. congratulations on your finish! I like how the prints are all crazy close up, yet from a distance all I see is the diagonal movement and the rainbow of colours. Great idea for a scrap challenge--wouldn't it be fun at a retreat for everyone to throw a rainbow of strips into a pile and then sew them into fun blocks like this?
