Still Hand Quilting

I'm about 1/4 of the way through hand quilting my Petunia quilt.

Inside the octagons I quilted alternate wedges with lines going across the wedge or lines going down the wedge.

I'm quilting with regular hand quilting thread on cooler days/nights.

In the stars between octagons I quilted around each quarter section and then one half of the quarter section gets stitched around twice.

It's all kind of difficult to see on these busy fabrics but it makes for some nice texture.

Doing any slow stitching? Or other hand work?

  1. I think "Petunia" is the perfect name for this bright and cheerful quilt...you are doing a LOT of hand quilting....and it's looking great. I get a sore shoulder from doing a lot at one time, so I have to rest for a couple days in between when I've been quilting by hand...hugs, Julierose

  3. Even on busy quilts where the hand quilting doesn't stand out so much, it always looks really different once the whole thing is done. An unquilted top just looks kind of naked to me now! Still loving this one.

  6. I love your Petunias! (Much as I love stars, and I do, this is clearly not a star quilt...)
And as usual, the more you show one of your quilts, the more I want to make one myself. This one is added to the list. (You know, that list that will keep me busy until I'm 325. And that's if I don't see any other quilts between now and then.)

  8. I like your quilting ideas - texture in a busy quilt seems like a better idea than adding more design elements via quilting.
