Indigo is really the color of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge but short of that we can substitute black and gray.
I've been making Dresdens each month in color of the month, color of month with b/w, color of month with w/b and color of the month with it's complement. Since I'm substituting black and gray for indigo it kind of made it difficult to make four blocks according to my usual plans but I did my best for substitutes.
Above is the b/w with white.
And here we have gray with b/w and w/b and w/b with black.
I've been making these 3 inch spools for a couple of years and have plans for a very large quilt with no borders. I think I need 783 and have 564.
Got scraps?

Your normal Dresden combinations do get a bit problematic with gray/black, eh?
ReplyDeleteI've been laughing this morning looking at all the rainbow blocks photos that look like they're taken in black and white...
Love your collection of black and whites. The Dresdens are very successful in that color scheme.
ReplyDeleteI bet that bowtie quilt is going to be fabulous :)

ReplyDeleteThe combinations look great, very tricky putting white together, but it looks very effective. Love spool blocks, I made a lap quilt with mine, I ran out of puff, but looking forward to seeing your large one...next year?
ReplyDeleteI like how the Dresdens look like B&W photography, but with a few spots of color. Great combos, as always!
ReplyDeleteGood job figuring out how to deal with the black, white, and gray issue in your Dresden Plate blocks. I especially like the gray rickrack around the center circle. ;- )
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to see your Dresden combinations. I like your spools, too. I enjoy choosing a block to use as a leader/ender for a while. An easy way to make a large quilt... or a large collection of blocks. Thanks for sharing these.
ReplyDeleteThe Dresden plates are so dramatic in the black, white and grey! Lovely spools. At the rate you're going the next 200 or so will be done in no time!
ReplyDeleteLove the first dresden with the rick rack! Never though of doing that. I need to go sew mine up this morning and link up - late but oh well. That is a LOT of spool blocks! It will make such a wonderful quilt.
ReplyDeleteI've just started trying to work out the leader/ender thing as it seems like an easy way to make a lot of something. I knew your spools were small but 783?? At least you are well on the way.
ReplyDeleteLovely Dresden plates, and all those spools are such fun. That's going to be a colourful quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove those spool blocks!
ReplyDeleteMust get my blocks together so I can enjoy a finished quilt of them... they are so fun!
