The theme this month in my sewing space to move some UFOs forward is "Strings and Things".
Last year I started making Spider Web blocks with shorter and skinnier strings. I made 14 blocks. I'm aiming for 35. Now that I've made these 6 blocks I have 20. I'm hoping to have all 35 blocks made by month end.

REMEMBER, TREASURE, GROW, READ (my words of the year)
I received a beautiful handmade Valentine's Day card from Linda. It is definitely a very special treasure.
The peace sign centers are wonderful complements to the strings.
ReplyDeleteI am working on my Spider web quilt as well. It is on a white background. Man, those seams at the center of the webs are a nightmare. Not sure I will ever be able to quilt through them.
ReplyDeleteLove the centers of your spider webs. This quilt design is on my bucket list. :)
ReplyDeletewonderful background choice for your spider webs, Cathy--just love these--hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteThere you go again with a fabulous background fabric! I see one of your readers is having problems with thickness in the centers. Maybe you have a tip? I like that pattern, but don't particularly care for that method. I hope you get a lot done today.
ReplyDeleteI luv this version for a scrappy quilt,I will definitely have to check the spider web pattern out
ReplyDeleteI've made two or three spiderweb string quilts along the way and there is no easy way to reduce the bulk of those centers aside from steam pressing FLAT and open as you work so that the final seam involves all opened/flatted seams. I know lots of Bonnie Hunter fans "twirl" their seams but I am not one who does that so I don't know if it would help or not in this case. My ultimate solution is to mash them down with the steam iron and when I quilt I avoid the dead center spots. Cathy - your version here is awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteIn regard to all of the many seams in the middle, I once read a tutorial for a kaleidoscope block quilt and she said that she takes a hammer to the middle of the blocks to flatten the seams. I don't remember who wrote that though.
