A Small Sixteen Patch Finish

It's a finish!
Sixteen Patch
42 x 42

I was looking through my SAR (Some Assembly Required) box of complete block sets to see what I had in there to assemble. I found this set of 16 Patch blocks. Not sure when I put them in there but maybe it was two years ago when I was working with some chunks of small animal and kid print 30s reproduction fabrics.

Well, anyway, it is now assembled and finished. I quilted it with vertical and horizontal lines on my DSM in a neutral thread.

The back is a cheater quilt fabric someone gave me that was just the right size.

And sew on...

CELEBRATE! (my word of the year)

June 5 - I saved $1.71 per gallon on gas with my HyVee Grocery Store Perks card. I only go grocery shopping every couple of weeks and normally don't buy a lot of items that go toward fuel savings. The amount of fuel savings accumulate; however, they expire after a month . Since I rarely go anywhere and don't use much gas my savings usually expire before I can use them. This time I guess the stars were aligned and I even filled up the gas can for the riding mower.

June 6 - I received two packages of quilty goodies - one from Julie and one from Donna. I am so thankful. It gets the old endorphins sparking and boosts the spirit. I love sorting through fabric and dreaming of what it will become -- kind of like giving birth to a child. Kind of...

June 7 - Happy 51st Wedding Anniversary to us!  Our anniversaries are usually just a day like any other. In the early days we never used to have enough money for gifts or to do anything special but mark the passage of our time together and enjoy the day and that is what we will do today.

  1. First Happy Anniversary - our 52 is in 10 days - where does the time go - we don't really celebrate either.
That was a good gas savings - we have a store I barely ever go to that gives points for gas too but their groceries cost more so I rarely go there - that was good!
I love the 16 patch - I have so many pre-cut squares I need to get busy and get a quilt made from some of them, I have 2.5", 2" and 1.5" a full box or nearly of some another is only half full but they make the nicest quilts

  3. Congratulations on your wedding anniversary! Gorgeous 16 Patch quilt, super colour pairings. What size were the squares? Although I guess you made them from strips? More lovely mail, fun time for you sorting the fabrics.

  4. We just passed 49 years and, like you, generally don't do anything dramatic to celebrate the day other than laugh about "how did we get here already?!" Happy the box contents made you happy - and HOORAY for savings on gas. There is a new HyVee Grocery Store going into our area - ground not yet broken but agreements are signed. We will be glad for the Kroger monopoly to have some big-boy competition.

  5. Happy Anniversary!!! We’ve been married 40 years, going on 41 and it seems so strange to say it when people ask. Such a long time. I love the 16 patch! You always inspire me!

  7. 16 patches always make the best quilts and the colors and prints in this one will make some little kid very happy. I love that cheater print on the back too. I have never seen one like that before. Congrats on your anniversary - that is quite a milestone.

  8. I love the 16 patch and that is a bonus to have it looking like a pieced quilt on both sides. Someone will love it!

Happy Anniversary! Most kids nowadays aren't getting married before age 30 so there probably won't be many reaching the 50 or more years anniversary. Both of my kids will have their 40th anniversaries this year.

  10. Such a happy quilt! Good job! Our 48th anniversary is on the 26th. We are planning a trip to Niagara on the Lake for a day of walking around the quaint town and a simple dinner. Have to celebrate because the bad stuff takes too much energy and emotion and need to fill the tank to keep going. Never know how much time I have left. Glad you got the points and discount! I know how you feel about fabric in the mail!
