Snowball and Nine Patch

I started a new Snowball and Nine Patch quilt because I liked the one at Blue Elephant Stitches

I had a small box of 2.5 inch squares and dug out sets of 9 squares of the same color. I made as many 9 patches as I could and now I have to go through scraps and find some more 2.5 inch scraps for squares. That will be easy to do as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) project.  In the meantime I can make snowballs.

And sew on...

  1. I checked out where you got your inspiration from. Great to use up all your small squares, but now you will be cutting a whole heap more, its neverending isnt it. Bet you end up with lots of leftovers again!

  2. I love the corners of the snowballs turn the nine patches into stars! Fun idea for a quilt!

  3. That looks more interesting than the light & dark 4patches I’m sewing without a plan. Laura H.

  6. Thanks for the link to the inspiration photo -- the "stars in the snowballs" is a great variation. A good RSC idea.

  7. I always love to see what you're working on. I'm cutting up 'pre cuts' from scraps and have a list of 7 sizes I need for quilts I want to make, and your timely post makes it 8 now. Won't have to worry about running out of pre cuts, I've been cutting those for the last 5+ years and will be done with the scraps in a month or so. That doesn't even count the many thousands of hexies I've been hand sewing for the last 18 months. Finally getting a handle on some of the quilts I'm close to finishing to give to others and then I'll be diving into sewing for me! Have a happy new year! Deb

  10. It looks like your readers are interested in making one as well. You always have good inspiration, good taste, and great fabrics. I'm looking forward to seeing it come along in the RSC.

  11. I love everything Jolene does at Blue Elephant Stitches! I just went back and checked out her 9-patch and snowball and I don't remember seeing this one at all and I've been following her for years. I can see why you decided to make one like hers. I would love to make one also. This would be a good leader/ender project. I am determined to accomplish more this year than ever before, which will still not even come close to your accomplishments, so no need to worry on your end. I won't steal your title in the Guinness Book of World Records.
