Hugs and Kisses
around the
Castle Wall
It's a top!
48 x 63
I made this (one of three) Castle Wall block back in February 2018. The block is a whopping 21 inches. I made my first block back in 2014 then made two more blocks in February 2018. I was always thinking I would make 12 blocks for a Castle Wall quilt someday. Well, this month I decided that's not going to happen because I'm not going to make any more Castle Wall blocks.
Since this month the theme here is Hearts and Flowers I decided that once and for all I needed to do something with the aging blocks. This Castle Wall block with XO fabric and lipstick stains was the starter for a medallion quilt. I made hugs (Os) with some light valentine fabrics and I made kisses (Xs) with red and pink valentine fabrics.
I had enough of that lipstick print to make a snowball border for the top and bottom. I thought the snowballs kind of looked like the center octagon of lipstick prints in the Castle Wall.
Years ago when I used to buy fabric I liked to collect valentine fabrics after Valentine's Day when they went on sale so I do have a small stash of them I hope to put to use this month.
XOXOXO
And sew on...
This is a most unusual quilt - I love it! Never heard of a Castle Wall block but considering I live in a town with a ruined castle I ought to have done! Google Kenilworth Castle and you will discover our treasure. It has a long history going back centuries and Queen Elizabeth I made a protracted visit with all her entourage and practically bankrupted the owners!
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique solution to a thorny block issue. How fun it is!
ReplyDeleteso much pink - I would say it looks like a Happy Valentines Day quilt :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always astounded with the specialty fabric selection you have! I have a huge stash also, but I think you have some of every fabric ever manufactured!! Hugs :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an excellent way to use that large block! And with all those pinks, it is just delicious!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever combination!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt! I really like the fabrics you've used for the X and O blocks and the way you've made borders top and bottom to create a rectangular quilt. Very clever :-)
ReplyDeletePretty in pink and fun quilt.
