Two more finishes!
A couple of years ago I made six inch Nine Patch blocks as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) project and also it was one of the last blocks I made to empty out my 2.5 inch scrap bin. Now instead of keeping scraps in bins by size I try to use scraps as they are made or if scraps are larger chunks I now store them by color.
Well, I made three tops but I still have not used up all the Nine Patches. Last year I quilted the Snowball/Nine Patch that used the yellow, red, pink and orange Nine Patches. For these two quilts I used the Nine Patch as the center for blocks.
Sister's Choice
40 x 60
For this one I used the lighter colored Nine Patches for the centers of some Sister's Choice blocks that finish at 10 inches.
I quilted in the ditch between blocks and then stitched on the diagonals. I'm not sure if you can tell or not but I used a large Easter egg print for the binding. Someone gave it to me a long time ago and I could never figure out how to use it in a donation quilt for kids so that it didn't look like Easter eggs. Since most of the colors in the fabric were in the quilt I thought I'd give it a try.

Framed Nine Patch
40 x 60
For this one I used the multicolored Nine Patches as the centers for Framed Nines that finish at 10 inches.
The frames were also multicolored 2.5 inch scraps.
I quilted it with horizontal and vertical lines. The binding was also multicolored - a stripe. It all makes for a pretty wild and crazy quilt.

And sew on...
You've had more snow! (You can keep it, thanks....considering that you are about directly west of me.) Thanks for the quilting closeups. I need to realize that straight-line grids are fine designs.
ReplyDeleteTwo great blocks for using up 9 patches! I really love the Sister's Choice blocks, and your backing is perfect for the quilt, too. Pretty finishes, Cathy!
ReplyDeleteI love 9-patches! There are so many great ways to use the blocks, and your two quilts are beautiful! I especially love that sweet Sister's Choice quilt.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Two more winners!
ReplyDeleteI love how the easter eggs end up just looking like giant polka dots in the binding!
Just lovely finishes!! I especially love the look of the framed 9 patches. :)))
ReplyDeleteYou do have a lot of snow--we've only gotten a few little snow showers on TWO days since December...will this be the Winter of no plowable snow for us!!
Stay warm--Hugs, Julierose
Two more finishes! Both great ways to use the 9 Patch blocks.. Backings and bindings are lovely too. An excellent idea to use the Easter eggs print as a binding - you would never guess that they weren’t quirky spots.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for 9-Patch blocks! Sisters Choice is so beautiful. I love everything about it, especially the Easter Eggs binding. Awesome job! ;^)
