Bear Paw #1
42 x 51
It's a top!
Starting last year and continuing into this year I've been making 6 inch (finished) Bear Paw blocks as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge project and whenever I have leftover 4.5 or 2.5 inch width scraps.
My intention was just to make blocks and at the end of this year to see how many donation quilts I could make from the blocks. For this one I pulled out the green and aqua blocks.
Funny thing happened when I was ready to add the final corner triangle....I could not find it! I looked all over the place for about 15 minutes and could not find it. How frustrating! Well, I had a piece of that same striped green fabric left that was just big enough to cut another square. That night when I went to bed and took off my slippers I saw a bit of green peeking out from inside. What the heck is that? Oh, that's where the side setting triangle was hiding! I wore my slippers into the sewing room and I took one off when I was using the foot pedal. I slid it back on when I got up to sew or cut. The piece must have fallen into my slipper and when I slid it on that corner triangle went into hiding.
Well, that's Bear Paw quilt top #1. Wonder how many more I'll be able to make. Stay tuned!
And sew on...
I love that block--I made one little Bear Paw block long ago into a pillow for a friend--before rotary cutters, etc., using templates...that seems like so long ago!! Hugs for really pretty blue Bear Paw blocks Julierose
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to the missing triangle. A few weeks ago I lost the final background strips for a block I was making. I had no more fabric (I had even pieced a couple of units to squeeze out enough). I looked, my husband looked, we went through the trash - no luck. I was convinced it would show up so I set the block aside. Well, this week I found a pattern shoved in the back of a drawer and what was inside the sheet of paper? You guessed it, the missing strips. It’s happened to all of us.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful, refreshing quilt! Love the way you set it.
ReplyDeleteYour Bear Paw quilt has turned out beautifully. You have a lot of patience to make all those blocks. I find them exhausting and really difficult to make - the space awareness problem rears its head when I’m making these blocks. 😢
ReplyDeleteJust realised it’s a top not a quilt. I hangs so well I thought it was a finished quilt! Good job I’m going to the optician’s next week!😢
ReplyDeleteI'm chuckling quietly to myself imagining you smuggling triangles in your slippers...
ReplyDeleteWhat a fresh and cheerful color scheme - glad the side setting triangle finally reappeared (grin).
ReplyDeleteIt's sooo cute. Love the colors and the design.
ReplyDeleteFunny story about the missing piece! Glad it finally showed up. When something goes missing like that, I feel like I'm really losing it. I've always liked the bear paw block but haven't made one yet. Is there any block you haven't made?
ReplyDeleteoh this is just so very beautiful. Maybe one of my most favorite ever !
ReplyDeleteLove the on point setting for the bear paw blocks! The scrappy edge triangles make it sparkle! And thanks for the giggle this morning about the elusive triangle :)
ReplyDeleteI got a chuckle out of your missing triangle. I lost a whole block recently - finding it a day later hiding behind my ironing board. Love your bear's paw quilt with this setting especially. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny! Fabric hiding in your slipper so it would not get sewn into the top. Love the bear paw quilt - especially those spiders crawling around on the fabric! What a fun iSpy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely green and aqua bear paw top quilt, Cathy. Funny story, glad the missing triangle was found.
ReplyDeleteThat's so pretty, Cathy! I love the bear paws all in green. And your story of the missing piece, too - so funny! We've all done something like that, I think!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sneaky scrap, hiding in your slipper! Luckily you had a little more fabric to cut another piece. Your Bear Paws no 1 looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE this quilt top, Cathy!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, that quilt top is divine! I love blue and green together, which is why I made 2 blue and green elephant quilts this spring. Bear Paws are such a fun block that they deserve to be part of our permanent block-making! Anyway, once again, beautiful top! xo
ReplyDeleteoh wow! what a beautiful quilt! you have a great eye for colour.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I just knew these were yours when I saw the thumbnail on Oh Scrap! Beautiful scrappy goodness;)
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful!!!! I love the color combo
ReplyDeleteand in your slipper - thats funny!
