Roses in Hexagons Top

Roses in Hexagons
It's a flimsy!
52.5 x 65.5

I started cutting the hexies for this quilt late last December. It took longer for me to cut the pieces than it did to sew the pieces together. I'm not good with using a rotary cutter to cut hexies so I cut them the old fashioned way with scissors. For this quilt I used rose print scraps in earth tones.

I used the templates found in the book Scrappy Fireworks Quilts by Edyta Sitar. She calls her quilt Sunshine Box Quilt.

The instructions say to quilt first and then trim the hexies on top and bottom so I guess that's what I will do.

I think I will hand quilt with an ecru perle cotton. And if I find a backing for it I think it might be next in my hoop because it is a smaller quilt. Most of the quilts I am going to hand quilt are larger and it's no fun to hand quilt something big in summer when I don't have air conditioning.

And sew on...

  6. Another gorgeous rose garden!
These may not smell as nice as your outdoor roses, but at least they have no thorns!

  7. Lovely fabric theme! I don't remember that one from the book, probably because I wasn't into hexies when I got it. Love everything LBQ!

  8. Beautiful collection of rose fabrics and set off perfectly by the rich green grass - couldn't be beaten for a rose theme quilt.
