Trip Around The World (TATW)
It's a flimsy! It's a top!
54 x 72
I don't remember when I started making the blocks. I think it was last year when I was trying to empty out a 2 inch width bin of scraps. I had a lot of darker pieces so thought I would use mostly darker fabrics. To make the first few blocks I collected the darker fabrics from the bin that were at least 2 x 12.5 inches. At around that same time I was trying to clean up a box of quilt back trimmings that was overflowing so cut any of those darker pieces that I could into 2 inch width pieces.
Then I made my blocks similar to Bonnie Hunter's (Quiltville) tube method and I ended up with 9 inch (finished) blocks.
I didn't have enough blocks for a quilt top so those blocks and any other pieces left went into a project box (a very large shoebox). Then as I came across or made scraps that were dark or 2 inches in width I threw them into the TATW project box.
Late last month I saw the project box was getting very full of trip strips so I made more blocks. And to my surprise I was only a few blocks short of a quilt top. As I was looking at the blocks I was afraid that the "trips" were not going to show up because the fabrics were so similar in value. I was afraid I was not going to like the finished result. I really didn't want to make the rest of the blocks necessary for a top only to be disappointed with the end result. But I went ahead and made 6 more blocks and assembled a top.
Surprise! Surprise! I was not disappointed!
And I have an empty project box. Now what?
And sew on...
It’s gorgeous! I’m sure you lave lots more fodder squirreled away :)
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I've made that pattern before, and seeing your quilt has me thinking about making it again.

Beautiful! I've got an overflowing box of 2" strips, this would be a good way to use them. Happy stitching!

It's absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDelete(And Scrappy Trips just ooched further toward the top of my list. Is it possible to have a 99-way tie for first?)
When you showed this partially made and wondered if you would like it, I was almost certain you would. It is so gloriously scrappy!!! LOVE IT!
ReplyDelete" A few blocks short of a quilt top" kinda like a few cards short of a full deck???? haha!!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful!!! Lots of happy colors!!
I just finished a similar quilt a couple of weeks ago on my blog. I like yours with 2" strips. I made mine with 2.5" ones. I might try to make some in your size as they sparkle more.
ReplyDeleteIt's a colourful, rainbowy delight.
ReplyDeleteThat is so colorful and happy! I think almost any combination of fabrics work in this type of quilt.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it SEW much, Cathy (and one of these days I hope to make one, too!!)
ReplyDeleteCertainly not dark- the deep yellow and jewel colours make a really colourful quilt. Love it.
ReplyDeleteStunning, stunning!! I love all that delicious colour.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your "trip" quilt in those deep colors! It's a reminder for me to finish (quilt) my 2 Scrappy Trips quilts that I loved making. They are so fun.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding. I'm hooked on these
