I started this as a response to an Adhoc Improv Quilt (AHIQ) January 2021 prompt.
I finished the top back in April 2021. The colors were inspired by a cardinal I saw in the snow from my kitchen window. The strings all came from my string bins.
I hand quilted it with perle cotton #8.
I've been stitching while grieving so this quilt is full of not only stitches but tears and memories.

Oh, what a beauty -- the quilt and Fairy Kayla.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is so pretty. Sometimes we actually see tulips in the snow when we get one of those April snowstorms on the early tulips. The memories we stitch into our quilts....you will always think of Kayla when you see this quilt.

Your granddaughter is such a beauty. I am moved to tears of the loss of this darling baby. Your quilt is a beautiful tribute to her . I hope it brought you comfort. I too am working on a mourning quilt for my sister. It is sometimes hard , but comforting too. You are in my prayers.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all I'd like to say how truly sorry I am about the loss of your granddaughter, Kayla. I gasped when I read of her death and cried when I read your grief comments. I have gone totally through your blog site previously and am now on my second time through...the tatting and embroidery you used to do are totally awe inspiring. I understand fingers don't work the way they used to (mine are the same!) I simply cannot understand the way in which you construct quilts...I usually do mine from start to flimsy stage...and wish that I could do them your way but I don't think I have the volume of scraps that you have. You are an inspiration to me because of the sheer volume of quilts that you complete...and they are wonderful to look at.

PS: I also wish that I had a garden as beautiful as yours!!
