I have many different varieties of Aquilegia in bloom in my flower gardens. I started all of them from seeds over the years. They are also commonly known as Columbine or Granny's Bonnets.
What an amazing variety of aquilegia you have in your garden. Didn’t know of some of those varieties. I have the deep royal purple and a baby pink in my garden. I like the name Granny Bonnets, perhaps because I am called Granny by my granddaughter.
Thanks so much for sharing your garden flowers! My husband has declared our new home flower free! Only evergreen and shrubs...maybe I'll try to sneak in some flowering shrubs! and no pots of flowers as they become a buffet for the deer!
I love Columbine and only have a couple. Two of my oldest ones didn't come up this year. I spread the seed from my plants every year but don't get any new plants. I really enjoyed seeing all of your variety. I don't have the patience to start seeds inside.
My sister has many varieties of columbine in her garden, too. These are simply lovely. I wish they grew down south but we do get bluebonnets in the spring.
What a wonderful variety. I have the common one in many colors and there are more blooming this year than the last few years. The deer were less noticeable this winter and early spring so most of the plants got a chance to set bud. I really like the pink one that looks like a fringed lampshade. Pat
Your Aquilegia are so beautiful! I have 3 small plants of the same colour - purple outside with white middles. I've never seen the ones you have which look like a 'double' set of petals - wonderful :)
Do you suppose if I planted flowers in every space & corner of my yard that the deer would leave enough for us (and the neighbors) to enjoy? Or would I just attract more deer? (ha).

ReplyDeleteWow! I had no idea there were so many variations!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to start the day. I want to visit your garden. I'll just sit there for a few hours, wander about and drink it all in.
