Jack and Jill
It's a flimsy!
72 x 84
I cut the 2.5 inch squares for this quilt as one of my final projects to empty my 2.5 inch width scrap bin.
I didn't have any solids or Tone on Tones (TOTs) of any length that would be enough for the 2.5 x 4.5 inch pieces (and I'm trying to make do and not buy fabric) so I used a lot of bits and pieces of different TOTs of dark blue that I came across when making my blue Economy Blocks (to clean up a pile of blue scraps) awhile ago.
I've found that this type of quilt makes a nice donation quilt for someone in extended care or hospice or in the hospital. Patients and visitors of all ages have fun looking at all the different fabrics and usually have a good laugh or at least a little smile. Oh, look...there's some radishes and a flying pig. And there's some ice skates...I remember when we used to go skating at that little pond down by...
And I spy a cardinal trying to hide from me.
I often look out my kitchen window and see a tiny bit of red in a winter wonderland of snow.
He gives me an idea for a white (and maybe black) quilt with a wee bit of red.
I love the colorful quilt and your lovely winter photos! I enjoy scrappy quilts with all the surprising things you can see in the different fabrics. I think that makes them interesting as well as pretty. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteI love this! I've been digging the scrap bins this morning. Took a bread to do a little blog reading and you were the first one that popped up in my reading list. It was meant to be! Would you mind if I borrow a picture and share this on my blog and Facebook? Of course I'll link back to you and the blog tutorial you used.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great with the mix of blues - very nice
ReplyDeleteWonderful quilt!
ReplyDeleteYou have lots of snow! It made for a pretty background for this beautiful quilt design! That's definitely what I love about scrappy quilts - all the fun surprises you find when looking around at the buts and pieces. Someone is going to love this one!
ReplyDeleteI like your scrappy top a lot and it sounds like a lot of fun, sitting on a bed, searching through the squares. I am also very taken both with the idea of a white quilt with bits of red and with the photo that inspired it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a kind idea to use interesting fabric for hospice quilts. And this is a great way to use up scraps. I still have a bunch although not as many as you. I am envious of your cardinal. We don't see many here and their colors brighten my day.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great scrappy quilt finish. And a wonderful photo of the cardinal. I love seeing the trees covered with snow like that (as long as I don't have to go out in it).
ReplyDeletePat
Fabulous new flimsy, Cathy!! I think you are right about quilt recipients and those fun prints. That Cardinal certainly earned his bird seed today with that quilt idea! :o))
ReplyDeleteBoy, that was a quick flimsy finish for you! The dark blues are the perfect accent!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt. You made all those different dark blue TOT squares work so well. I Spy some dolphins! I bet you’ve added up how many squares it took to make this quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is so much fun with scraps.
ReplyDeleteI like this quilt a lot! In fact, I think I will be making it soon. Thanks for the link to the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteThat type of quilt would be enjoyed by anyone. Love your cardinal
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful and very fun-loving. However, I'm sweet on cardinals so that picture has my heart!
ReplyDeleteThis one is so vibrant in the snow! Pretty scraps. We only get cardinals fleetingly here as they go on their way to where they really want to be at. I love them. You got a great photo of one!
ReplyDeleteScrappy makes it happy! Lots of variations in a shade of blue makes it sew much more interesting!
ReplyDeleteJack and Jill is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThat cardinal tho - that could be a greeting card!
Goodness, that was fast! Seems like only yesterday you were talking about starting a Jack and Jill someday! I love it!
ReplyDelete(And now I've got to do a little adjusting on my to-do list again...)
