Crossed - A Flimsy

Crossed
It's now a flimsy!
57 x 76

I believe I started making these 9.5 inch (finished) blocks back in 2011 to use up some strings but can you believe I actually did use up my strings back then and only made 10 blocks? I did. And then I put the blocks away and forgot about them for a long time.

Well, I definitely had enough strings (and then some) this time to move this old UFO forward.

And now I see some ways to play with these blocks in different ways. So, since I still have lots of strings left there may be a variation of Crossed in the future.

I'm glad it finally warmed up so I can go out and take clothesline photos again. For several weeks it was below zero and snow too deep and ground too icy for me to even venture out for anything. But I am thankful that I did have some heat in this old house although sometimes it barely went above 59 degrees. I am thankful I can bundle up in quilts and read a book if need be. And I'm thankful I have a back up sewing machine because my main one has been in the shop since Jan. 21. I finally decided I'm not going to have it fixed anymore because constant repairs are getting too expensive. But again I'm thankful that I have a new and hopefully more heavy duty one on the way.

  4. I love your 'sane, crazy, crumby' quilts. To me, they scream color which is something I want in my life. Thanks for sharing all that you do. And thanks for including where to look for the pattern to this quilt.

  5. Hooray for a new sewing machine on the way - I agree that repeated repairs are both annoying, frustrating, AND expensive. LOVE Crossed -- So bright, scrappy, and just plain fun.

  6. I love this quilt! Crossed has been on my bucket list for a couple years. Maybe next year when I’m not inundated with QFK scraps. Stay warm!! With quilts aplenty, that should be no problem! xo

  11. A great way to use strings.
I'm glad you stayed warm enough and had plenty of books. I think I read more than sewed this past week.

  13. Oh what fun. I spied an orange Charlie Brown fabric that I still have a few small pieces of. Given how much work you put them through, it's fair to say it may be time to put this machine out to pasture. It's not just the cost of repairs, but the time lost while it's being repaired that becomes a burden. Can't wait to see what the replacement is.

  14. I love this top! Thank you for referencing the tutorial, I had to look it up to figure out how the block was done. Looks super simple, with a dramatic affect. Well done!

  15. Great quilt. The white parts really emphasise the bold strips of colour. Of course the whole quilt shows up every different strip of fabric. The beauty of the quilt depends on that amazing variety of scrap strips.

  17. That's a great way to use strings, and I love the woven look of it. So glad you've gotten a little warmer weather, and hope the snow is melting, too. Reading a book, while wrapped up in a quilt, isn't a bad idea for spending winter days, either!

  18. Cute idea! That must have been fun to make/sew! Glad you are getting a new sewing machine. Is it another Brother? You must be psyched.

  19. Is a "flimsy" a real thing? To me it's an adjective, meaning thin, weak, etc., but this is one strong-looking great quilt!

  23. Cathy, I love this quilt, just like all your others. You accomplish so much more than most people, it seems. And that's quilting on your sewing machine. You take great pictures, too.
