I bought four yards of this deeply discounted fabric ($3 yd) last year to use as quilt backs for donation quilts. I knew I had a box of parts I could use to make the tops. I just now got around to opening the Cowboy/Cowgirl box of stuff because I finally figured out one of the quilts I want to make to go with the back.
This is the large flat rate box of cowperson? cowkid? stuff I now want to empty. Again, I'll challenge myself to see how many quilts come from this box.
Of course there's a partial set of Happy Blocks in there. You knew there would be, didn't you? So, one of the quilts will be a Happy Block quilt. There's 18 Happy Blocks that need to be trimmed down. This was a swap where members would send around 6.5 inch centers to other members to border. Some folks made the borders more than 2.5 inches wide for fear their seams weren't exactly 14 inch. So I need to trim those. Then I have six 6.5 inch centers there to make the rest of the blocks for a set of 24 ten inch blocks. There's a couple of 2.5 inch scraps there too.
There's a few 4.5 and 4 inch squares of swapped novelty fabric that I will probably add to my box of various sized squares.
Then there's a pile of 6.5 inch squares and two pieces of fabric cut at 6.5 inches I can cut into squares. Again, some of the squares came from I Spy swaps and others I cut. I am going to use the 6.5 inch squares to make a quilt similar to Julie's (Quiltdivajulie.blogspot.com) Copacetic quilt.
I'll use my Easy Angle Companion ruler to cut parts for the Hourglass blocks. This little pile of fabric and maybe some solid scraps will be used to make the hourglasses.
I'll see what is left in the box after I make those 2 quilts. I'm thinking I may be able to make a third one. Anyway, the plan is to turn this box of stuff into quilts and end up with an empty box.
Head 'Em Up! Move 'Em Out!
Yeehaw!!

ReplyDeleteI had some of that cowboy/cowgirl fabric and used it in a baby 'boy' quilt years ago. Then the recipient didn't end up using the quilt because she said that actually all the cowboys were cowgirls so it was a little too girly. The cutest fabric regardless.:)
ReplyDeleteOh how fun!! Those are my kind of fabrics - can't wait to see what you make of them!!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the little cowboy quilts I made for my Great GS. Some little cowboy, or a cowgirl, will love that one when you get it finished! ---"Love"
