It's a Finish! Black, White and Read All Over

Black, White and Read All Over
59.5 x 68
I made this to use selvages with text.
I also used 9 inch squares of fabric with text.
Quilt was inspired by Star Bright free quilt pattern by Katie Blakelsey of Swim, Bike, Quilt.

I finished this top Dec. 2018 so it's about time it got to the top of the quilting queue.  It's not like I don't have anything  better to do but when I was sewing the selvages together for the 9 inch squares I grouped them kind of by theme such as...Happiness is...
Jumpin' Jungle.

So there's lots of easy reading in this quilt, maybe a few words of encouragement, and maybe a few laughs.

I quilted it on my DSM with vertical lines of serpentine stitch.
For the backing I used a piece of gray fleece that was a perfect fit. It's been around here for ages so I'm glad I finally found a use for it.

And speaking of words...I know a lot of people choose a guiding word each year. I have never thought one word was enough to guide me through a year so I've never picked one. Instead I'll share the words I try to live by every year:

1. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
2. Stay the course
3. Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.

Happy New Year, everyone!
I'm looking forward to another year of quilting (and gardening).

  1. Well done for your finish! Like your “instead of a word” ideas for 2020. I couldn’t think of a word but I like your ideas.
I always try to do my best, be kind and support family, friends and beyond.

  3. That's such a great quilt design, and I love the combination of text fabric and selvages! It will be a fun one for the recipient to look at and enjoy as well as find comfort under. I like your three phrases to live by, too! Happy New Year, Cathy!

  4. I've never chosen a word either. Sort of like resolutions. I never keep them. Quilter Kathy has a Mother Teresa quote at the bottom of her blog. As I recall it is a perfect prescription to follow.

  7. A clever way to use your selvedges. I sewed mine up once then gave the top away.
And your three rules are much better to me than annual words. I need reminders of my life plan like these.

  8. I like your words - they are excellent guides. And this finish is great - I love that it has words for reading.

  9. The perfect quilt to cuddle up with a good book! And you have more fun with selvages than anyone I know!
    (Good words, by the way!)

  12. What a nice quilt! I love all your quilts! My mom would remind us, “Do unto others, as you would have others do unto you.” Nice reminder. 😊
