False Positive

 It's a flimsy!
42 x 54
I started making these six inch blocks back in 2013 from 2.5 inch scraps. I made them off and on over the years as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge project whenever I remembered. Looks like I usually remembered when the color of the month was green.

I have so many sets of blocks that could be assembled into a top so sometimes it's difficult to decide which set to assemble. I'll tell you a little story about why I recently chose to assemble these particular blocks.

A month ago at my Wellness Check I decided to take a less invasive form of a screening test since the doctor has been bugging me for a couple of years to get screened and I have been putting it off. I thought the test would come back negative and that would be the end of that.  But it came back positive. Oh crap! Bum deal, if you get my drift. I had to go ahead and schedule the more invasive form of that screening test. Worry, worry. But...there was a chance I could be one of the 12% false positives. Worry, worry, wait, wait. I decided to do some mindless sewing while waiting for the follow up appointment for diagnostic testing. I saw the Plus Sign blocks. I have sometimes referred to the quilt I would make from them as The Power of Positive Thinking.  (In fact that is how it is listed on my UFO page. ) As I almost mindlessly sewed the blocks together my mantra was "I am a false positive. I am one of the 12%."   Well, I'm glad to say that is true.  It turned out all right in the end and I'm glad that is all behind me, if you get my drift.

  2. You must be so relieved! I'm glad everything is sitting pretty in that department. (See what I did there? Hope it gives you a chuckle.) Getting older is no fun at all.

  3. I was going to make a crack about ending well, but you can write your own bumper sticker for that, I think...

  4. Three cheers for good news in the end! Seriously, I've heard there is a fairly high incidence of false-positive results with that first test you linked. Happy to hear yours was one of those and not bad news.

  6. Sorry you had to go through the extra procedure, but glad your worries are not relieved for 10 more years. But look at the neat quilt that resulted.

  7. What a darling quilt! But the best news is that your test was clear - and I bet you can go another 5-10 years before you have to repeat it.

  8. What a super flimsy! Love the alternate deep colour and white backgrounds for the plus signs. I’d definitely give it A++
Glad your health scare worked out OK - I can empathise with how worried you would have felt. Positive thinking works!

  9. LOL, since I’ma registered nurse, I immediately noted the name of this quilt with my interest being piqued i just had to read the post. Since I had worked in a family practice for 10 years, we nurses always rejoiced when we found out that one of out patients received a ‘false positive’. So I can truly understand the waiting time and the end result of your experience. Isn’t it wonderful that we have quilting to help us work through times like this? I still remember an exhibit at the New England Quilt Museum of “HEALING”. I can still see three quilts that I thought were spectacular in my mind. One was a panel of three depicting a person going through eye surgery. Her vision as she saw things before, right after the surgery, and after. The work was amazing with lots of embellishment. Congratulations with the quilt and outcome.

  10. These kind of things can scare one to pieces. The waiting is so hard. Glad to hear it turned out fine in the end. The quilt is lovely.

  11. HOORAY -- so happy that you were a false positive. And hooray for mindless sewing to help distract us when waiting for test results (nerve-wracking to say the least).

  14. Great News. I had to have the invasive a couple of years ago because of symptoms that were a huge worry. Nope, I am OK. Can't mess with fear. I like that working on your quilt kept your mind on the right path. Glad your test was good. I particularly like the tiger print plus.
