A couple more Sunflowers.
These are machine pieced.
The pattern is found in 19th Century Patchwork Divas' Treasury of Quilts and is very easy to follow.
There's a variety of reasons I make a quilt. This one?
1. I saw a vintage Sunflower quilt long ago and always wanted to make one for myself.
2. I love Sunflowers. When the kids were little I grew them a Sunflower house to play in - Sunflowers planted in a square (playhouse sized) with a "door" opening. Then vining flowers like Morning Glories were planted in between to fill in spaces and make a "roof". Ah, the memories...wish I had a picture. Later in the year we would harvest and roast sunflower seeds but leave some heads out for the birds.
3. The challenge. There's nothing like the feeling of satisfaction that comes from making a block you weren't quite sure you could.
Oh how true; I've looked and gazed at sunflower quilts, read directions and then...chickened out totally...these are just so gorgeous...nice work hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteDon't you love the way sunflowers in nature all face the same direction? (I assume it's toward the sun ...) You've done a very nice job on these blocks.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on these sunflowers, especially considering they were sewn on the machine. A long time ago, not knowing any better, I machine pieced a baby blocks quilt. It wasn't easy but it got done and looked pretty good too.
ReplyDeleteLove the Sunflower House story.... another idea from your inventive mind. Two gorgeous sunflower blocks.
ReplyDeleteI wish my kids were still little so I could grow them a sunflower house! I'll have to remember it for next year and grow one for my granddaughter and grandson. They'll be 4 and 2--perfect.
ReplyDeleteI adore your sunflower quilt! I'm doing Farmer's Wife, which is my challenge quilt. I love your colors on your blocks and can't wait to see it all put together!
I'll say the same thing as last time you posted your sunflower blocks, I love them! Definitely on my someday list. Hubby grows sunflowers in every available space, our flowers mostly point east toward the morning sun. They're such cheerful flowers and we love to see the birds gleaning the seeds ... and reseedin the patch for us for the next year.
ReplyDeleteA sunflower house! I've never heard of anything like that before! It sounds truly magical :)
ReplyDeleteLove sunflowers and love your blocks!
ReplyDeleteThree great reasons, two very lovely blocks.
ReplyDeleteA sunflower quilt is on my bucket list. I was even looking at my Pinterest page of sunflower quilts last night and thinking about what colors and fabrics I want in my quilt - so reading your post this morning was inspirational! Do these blocks get appliquéd to a background?
ReplyDeleteYour sunflower blocks are awesome. I am like you that I have always wanted to make them. They are planned as my next hand piecing project. You did a great job on yours and by machine! Wow!
ReplyDeleteThe reasons I'm going to make a Sunflower quilt? All the same as your reasons, plus the biggest one -
ReplyDelete4. I saw the fabulous blocks on Sane, Crazy, Crumby and was inspired. (Again...)
I love these so much! A lot of my quilts are made just for fun, but I do like to challenge myself as well. Can't wait to see this all together!
ReplyDeleteWhat Gayle said! ^
ReplyDeleteLove your color choices on these.
