About Sunshine Online Quilt Guild Block Lotto

Four 12 inch blocks that will go toward Sunshine Online Quilt Guild's Block Lotto.

I've decided this year I will use my 4.5 inch scraps to make blocks for this lotto every month.

If you'd like to make a few blocks it's a great way to try new 12 inch blocks of your choice or to practice those perfect points on HSTs or a great way to use scraps...even crumbs!

I'm an extreme introvert so this is my type of guild! I don't have to say anything on list if I don't want to and can avoid those awkward social interactions I often dread that leave my stomach churning for days plus I can work with a group of talented ladies to make donation quilts from the comfort of my hermitage.

Info on SOQG in case you would like to join:
This list is for Sunshine Online Quilt Guild. We make quilts for kids around the world. We donate to two programs: Wrap a Smile and Quilts Beyond Borders. Quilts go to kids, teens, and adults undergoing cleft palate surgery and to under-served children, often in orphanages, worldwide.

Please join us if you enjoy making quilts for children in need.

Wrap-A-Smile partners with Rotaplast, an organization whose mission is to provide cleft palate and cleft lip surgeries for children world wide.  It's  always fun to spot a quilt with a child with one of the quilts you have made or helped to make.  Their blog lists missions past and present  and future with photos.

Ok. Now back to the Block Lotto...

According to Tammy, the Block Lotto Coordinator, who makes gorgeous lotto quilts:

January's theme is blue and yellow. Any shade is fine, just remember to add some
blue and yellow to your blocks.
This is a monthly block lotto. To participate, send in blocks in sets of two.
The minimum to participate is one pair of blocks but you are welcome to send as
many blocks as you like. I will keep one of each set to make quilts for Sunshine,
the other will go into a pot for a winner to use as they please.

PLEASE NOTE: If you don't want your name in the lotto pot, but you don't mind
some of your blocks going to the winner, that's fine. Or if you want your blocks
to just go to Sunshine, that's great too. Just send me a note either in email or
in your envelope with your blocks to let me know. If there's no note, I'll go
ahead and include you in the drawing.

For every pair of blocks, your name goes into the drawing one time. The more
blocks you send, the greater your chances of winning! If you send an odd number
of blocks, I will keep the extra block for Sunshine.

Blocks need to be 12" finished (12 1/2" as sewn). Fabrics can be solid, tone on
tone or prints, etc. but must be 100% cotton. Prewashing is fine but not required.

You can use any pattern and any technique (traditional piecing, applique, paper
piecing, crumb blocks, etc). It's great if your pair of blocks match, but it's
not required.

Try to get your blocks to me by the last day of the month. I will post to the
list the blocks that I have received and post photos of the blocks. If I haven't
posted a photo of your blocks, let me know.  I will draw the name of the winner
on or around the 1st of the month.

  1. This quilt is going to be gorgeous, but then all the quilts you post are wonderful. I absolutely love the one in the post before this one. Those stars are so detailed, I wish I had your talent:)
Tomorrow I'll be celebrating my 6 years of blogging with a give-a-way, please come over and put your name in the hat :)
    Keep Smiling.

  2. Blue and yellow always work well together.
Making quilts for kids around the world is a great idea, to help and cheer them.
What could be better? Good ideas and projects are going on here. Thanks for

  4. The monthly themes are in different colors so does this mean that the block design will be the same each month? Is this the same Block Lotto that you wrote about before, and are you taking over for the previous manager/person? Sorry for all the questions but I'm a little confused. Thanks Cathy.

  5. Very nice blocks in yummy saturated blues and yellows. I'm glad you have a charitable, online guild that works with your introvert ways! I like those kinds of groups that are OK with "drop in or out" on any given month. Much simpler than worrying about an ongoing commitment.
