A Tale of Birds in the Air - Chapter VII - Another Flimsy

The temperature was above 20 degrees this a.m. so I ventured out to take some photos.  Brrrr....
I've finished the third flimsy  in a series of Birds in the Air  block quilts.

A Pansy For Your Thoughts
87 x 87

Getting this to flimsy stage was my January OMG (One Monthly Goal). I can check that one off as completed now!
I haven't pieced it together yet but I have several pieces large enough for a back I think.  The blue bigger print is wide fabric leftover from making curtains long long ago.

Here it is with the other two Birds in the Air quilts which were both very old UFOs until I started down this Tale of Birds in the Air.   Gosh, it would have been a nicer picture if my husband hadn't decided to park the camper in front of the barn after he winterized it but so it goes.

I still haven't found any backings yet  in my stash for the one with the navy background (Old Birds) and the one with the white background (White Bird) and I'm on "no buy" for awhile trying to make do with what I have this year so it may be awhile before they get quilted. Time will tell.

  2. How delightful to see these different versions! I've made one in autumn colours and blues and bring it out every fall.

  3. I really love this latest chapter of your Birds in the Air journey, Cathy! The solid birds with the pansy triangles are a great combination. Thanks for including the photo of all three, too. They are beautiful!

  5. I like all three! It always amazes me how color changes a pattern. And I am fascinated by your color/print combinations in the most recent one.

  8. Cathy, what a super quilt. Can't believe how much you accomplish and out of scraps! Hope you manage to finish the quilt before too long - " ere long" as my Yorkshire friend would say. As always I love the names you choose for your quilts.

  10. Great work! Love them all! That is a lot of HSTs but they come together to make three great quilts.

  11. Your quilts look beautiful hanging on the clothesline and I didn't even notice the camper until you mentioned it. It's amazing how different they all look coming from the same design. I do like the blue floral backing the best, although they are both equally as nice. It will be interesting to see what you come up with for a quilting design.

  14. A beautiful trio! I especially love this new one with the depth of color and shadings. These have (almost) convinced me to add a birds in the air to my list of 'somedays'. Maybe even sooner than someday.

  15. They all look so fab! Tough to choose a favorite, though. Being fond of theme fabrics myself, I'm happy to see Pansy For Your Thoughts finished. I have a bunch of bird themed fabrics. Is there a pansy block I can make out of those?

  16. Clever you. I notice each is laid out differently. They certainly look different between that and the lovely colors you've used. Congratulations on finishing these old tops. Good luck finding a back. Like you, I'm getting backs out of my stash.

  21. First of all love Pansy Bird Tales! Our community garden had Pansies last summer that had come back up from the previous year's planting and they were by far my favorite flower last year! Love all the purples and pansy fabrics you used -- it's a color I am growing to really appreciate used in quilts.

I'm even more excited to see how you interpreted the same block in the two other colorways. The black background one is an unexpected approach and truly striking. Well done on them all and applauding you braving a cold day photo shoot!
