Another Top Assembled. Guess I Should Get Quilting!

Mother Goose Redwork Embroidery
Ruby Kim Illustrations

I think I'll have to hand quilt this one. No hurry, really. This will go into the Hope Chest for a future great grandchild along with an old Mother Goose book I received as a baby shower gift when I was pregnant with my oldest child who is now 43 years old.

I'll have plenty of time to quilt when I retire. My last day is Feb. 28 but who is counting?  I'm off on Fridays and the weekends but work 10 hour days so that's 60 hours of work left!!! Wooooohoooo! I've worked at the same place for 30+ years but actually have had a job since I was 15 years old and that's almost 50 years.   Time flies.  Time for another chapter of life.

I guess I have my choice of Mother Goose backings. I didn't realize I had so many possibilities in my stash until I went looking in my children's fabric box.

I'm tending toward using this one for the backing.

Can I Get a Whoop, Whoop?

  2. Congratulations! I hope you enjoy this next chapter of life as much as I have! There is definitely lots of time for quilting. This looks like the perfect quilt to start on, but I know you probably have many to choose from!

  3. I like the last fabric for the backing too. I love red-work quilts, they are so old fashioned and will never stop being a favorite.
    Happy Quilting!

  4. Adorable quilt top, and the last backing choice is perfect!
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement. You already finish so many quilts, I can't wait to see how much more quilting you get done after you stop working.

  7. Woohoo for retirement!
And I'm really looking forward to seeing what you can accomplish with all that new sewing time. You're already a Force of Nature!
(And it cracks me up that you have not one, not two, but three perfect choices for that quilt back!

  8. That last backing fabric is a good choice. It's a bit busier, so the quilting stitches will blend right in.

    Counting down to retirement...very exciting!

  10. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement. That is such wonderful news! And, as many of us have found, even in retirement there never seems to be enough time to get all the quilts on your list made! Makes us wonder how we ever got any finished while we were working. But it sure is wonderful not waking up to an alarm clock every morning.

  11. Wow! Congratulations on your imminent retirement. How exciting for you! I remember when it was years off.... You're going to love it and wonder how you ever had time to work. My only concern is that your productivity, which already puts the rest of us to shame, is going to skyrocket!! Hahaha. Seriously, though, if it does skyrocket, more power to you!! Hugs.
