Postage Stamps
Does anyone actually remember licking the non-fabric version to get them to stick to an envelope?
Anyway, this is the fabric version of postage stamps so I'm joining them and not licking them. I finished up more 10 inch blocks for my collection bringing me to a total of 26 out of the 36 I think I need. No problem to make 10 more blocks - that's only 6,000 more postage stamps!! They are joined with muslin strips and were inspired by a vintage quilt.
There will be sashing too since the vintage had sashing. I think I may have enough of the yellow plaid to use. If not I'll substitute some other yellow plaid in places.
I also made 3 more brown/tan/cream postage stamp blocks for my "Plain Brown Wrapper" quilt.
These blocks put a dent in my postage stamp supply. Most of what is left is multi-color florals, black/gray and neutrals.
These postage stamp blocks were all started as Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects a couple of years ago. It may be another couple of years before they become quilts but who's in a hurry?

are you using 1.5 inch squares for your postage stamp quilt like I did? I sure used a lot of them.

ReplyDeleteThis is a great way to use all those little squares, and the plain muslin strips set them off perfectly!

ReplyDeleteThose are fun to look at! Do you pre-cut your littlest scraps into postage stamp squares so they are available when you want to make some of these blocks? I have my scraps sorted by color, but haven't been cutting them into sizes yet, although it does seem pretty convenient to do that.

ReplyDeleteWhat a good example you set for us in using up even your little 1.5" squares. I love all your blocks!! I've learned that I don't do so well with bitty pieces (marching seams), so that is exactly why I should start working with them to practice, practice, practice.
ReplyDeleteYou have two great advantages, that you don't have to match seams and that with the muslin, you only need half as many postage stamps. Does that mean you are going to make a double size quilt :) ? I really like the overall color effect. Keep up the good work!

I remember.... that awful taste when licking the stamps... or envelopes. Your fabric version looks great.
ReplyDeleteYour non hurry attitude makes me smile . Sometimes I have a hard time being ok with slow sewing... that makes for not a lot of finishes in my world. I am easily distracted by the next sweet thing. I wish I could sew and finish faster but it just doesn't seem to be the way I function. Seems like You are always up to something good. I enjoy your creations. Janita
