I Topped It!

Lozenges (aka Suppositories)
76 x90
It's a top made from 2 x 4.5 lozenges - 760 of them.
It's too long for the clothesline and it is very wet outside so...

...here it is turned on it's side.
I think I have a piece of wide muslin for the back and I think I will machine quilt it on my plain Jane DSM with some straight lines.

I started working on these late in 2014 and all through 2015 as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge project.

I have jokingly been referring to these as suppositories because they are kind of a pain in the patooty to make....well, they are not all that difficult to make but they are sooo boring with those little 1.5 inch corners that need to be sewn and trimmed - four of them on each of those 760 units.   Good thing I only made a few of the color of the month each month or I never would have seen these through to a top. I'm not a leader/ender sort of gal so don't make any quilts using that method.

Holidays are rather stressful for  me. I'm not really a people person even if the people are my family and friends...I prefer to spend time by myself.  These suppositories were just the right mindless kick-in-the-booty type of cure that could see me through the holidays, the people, the stress.  You can't top that! (Er, I guess I did...top it).

  3. Love it! Your story about the holidays made me laugh, too. There's nothing like a sewing project to get us through the stressful times!

  4. It may have been a pain in the butt to make all of those lozenges but it really did turn out wonderful.

  5. Well, your lozenges/suppositories top turned out super nicely! I love how you alternated black and white corner pieces. Are you doing to finish it before year-end? I have one that I just need to bind tomorrow.

  6. Your quilt is a knockout! So now we know what was in the suppositories.
All year long you make striking blocks that perform magic when you put them all in a quilt.

  10. Total of 760! Good thing you're not celebrating with candles on a cake. You would need all of your quilt buddies to blow them out. Since we can't be there, congratulations on a great finish. Love the strip stars, so colorful. Keep up the good work!

  11. You did it again, you made another celebration of life! Your quilts make me happy when I look at them and this one does, too. I might dare to try a lozenge quilt myself, now that I have seen yours finished.

  15. I have to find a little time to myself during the holidays too. It really does help to smooth out my rough edges that show up from too much socializing.:) This is a fabulous quilt! Love all the different prints in it!

  16. Yay! I do love those suppositories!
(I laughed today, because I looked around and realized we had the perfect family get-together for a family of introverts - we were all within earshot of each other, but each had their own book or kindle or smartphone, happily in use.)

  17. In case you were curious, you did 3,040 corners. Sorry, I just had to figure that out. You rock! The top is beautiful! I would love to do something like that, but I know me well. And I know that I wouldn't finish it. Besides I have a zillion things to finish now! Thank you for sharing your beautiful work!

  18. My uncle John Gillander used to say, "The true miracle of Christmas is that most of us survive it." Your top looks terrific!

  20. They may have been a pain at times (I know, I made one from these too) -- but the result is fabulous. I totally understand the "by myself" comments, too.

  21. I have never made a Lozenge quilt - yours is a beauty and an ideal make for RSC. I too am not a huge people person and prefer quiet time by myself, but it was a lovely Christmas with all the family and catching up with folk, it does take its toll and I now feel totally drained and ready for solitary quilting time!
