I'm winding up the brown RSC color of the month with some brown Dresdens.
These use 4.5 inch scraps and are appliqued to 13 inch backgrounds.
Each month I usually make 4 but this month the color complement for brown is unclear to me since it is not on most color wheels. Some searches say something like cyan. Rather than worry about it I only made 3 Dresdens.
My rules for Dresdens this year:
1. gray background fabrics
2. polka dot centers
3. gray rick rack around centers
4. one block entirely in the color of the month
5. one block in the color of the month plus black/white fabric
6. one block in the color of the month plus white/black fabric
7. one block in color of the month plus the color complement
Got Scraps?
Your Dresden blocks look lovely: good enough to eat!
ReplyDeletethey're lovely on the gray! I would not have thought about that as a background and it's lovely. Leeanna
ReplyDeleteNeat, like your rules!
ReplyDeleteColor wheel...what a concept. What are the complements to chocolate and coffee?
ReplyDeleteLOVELY dresden blocks . . . no worries about the fourth one. You can always add something later when you see what is needed.
ReplyDeleteNicely done.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the complement isn't exactly clear-cut, is it?
ReplyDeleteLove your dresdens. Can't wait to see what you do with them!
I love your Dresdens and want to begin a series of my own, but havent really thought it out yet. Do you have enough for a quilt yet? BTW, I saw and voted for your Petunias quilt in the Bloggers Quilt Festival. I am rooting for you!
ReplyDeleteThe complement to brown...a good question. Since brown is made up of the mix of two complements such as red and green, that does not show up on a color wheel. Do whatever looks good to you, I guess. You have made excellent choices on all you other Dresdens, so I'm sure you will have a winner.
ReplyDeleteReally nice combo of colors on those dresdens...loving the ric-rac...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteYou fulfilled your personal challenge admirably - well done!
ReplyDeleteMore beautiful blocks. I'm looking forward to seeing this one come together.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks and I love your rules to create variety.
ReplyDeleteThe new Dresdens look great - I'm looking forward to seeing them all together!
ReplyDeleteThe Dresden plates are wonderful. I don't know what the colour compliment to brown would be. Does it have one?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks this month. Not sure what the complement for brown is. Looks like you solved the problem though.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful. Looking froward to seeing your quilt come together. I'm planning to try them during 2017's RSC.
