Hand Quilting

If the heat index isn't over 100 degrees (no a/c at my house) I've been doing a little hand quilting.

Inside the octagon sections...

...I alternate the stitching in the wedge sections between lines about 1/4 inch apart going cross wise across the wedge and...

...lines radiating out. No marking so stitching lines sometimes go astray but fabrics are so busy I don't think it matters much.

Then there are the star sections between the octagons.

I think the heat index will be over 100 today again so I'll probably catch up on some redwork squares instead of hand quilting. You never know. It's nice to have a choice of projects to work on.

It's Sunday and you know what that means...Slow Stitching Sunday at Kathy's Quilts.

  2. The quilting looks great. I hope you have cooler weather so you can continue. Although redwork sounds like fun too. I am so grateful for my a/c. We will be around 90 today.

  7. Looks great and I love free form quilting! Not sure how you get any hand quilting done without ac our humidity is so high here we can't live without it and I still don't like to quilt in the summer.

  9. 100 degrees? Ugh. I try to keep my house at 78! Is it humid where you live? I could never do a humid 100, though Arizona desert 100 isn't bad. The quilting in the octagons is great - colored thread, too! Wonderful to see all those busy fabrics work so nicely together.
