Ocean Waves
192 - 2.5 inch HSTs from 30s scraps.
My 2.5 inch 30s reproduction scrap box was starting to overflow so I made 2.5 inch HSTs which became 16 eight inch blocks which became 4 sixteen inch blocks. And now I have 6 out of the 25 blocks I want for a large sized quilt.
Last December I started making Ocean Waves Variation blocks but instead of making 3.5 inch HSTs like the pattern at Quilter's Cache I made 2.5 inch HSTs. Some of the HSTs are leftover from other projects and the 30s are combined with Kona Snow. Some of the other HSTs are combined with unbleached muslin. All of the HSTs I just made are combined with unbleached muslin. I use an EZ angle ruler to cut the HSTs.
Because I used my scraps and because tomorrow is Scraptastic Tuesday I'll be linking up there when the time comes. (Link also on the sidebar). On Wednesday I'll link these scraps, er, I mean Ocean Waves, up to WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced.
Making Waves???
I'm surprised I get anything made this time of year. If I'm not working at the full time job I'm trying to get all the gardens planted and the perennials weeded in between all the heavy duty rains. We've been cutting and eating lettuce, green onions and asparagus from the garden. I forgot to plant any radishes. The bluebells, lilacs and tree peonies are blooming and the Iris are almost ready to bloom. I see flowers in the strawberry patch but it's so weedy in there I'm not sure I'll be able to find the strawberries when it is time to pick them though I'm sure the grandkids will be able to find them.
We had our last picking from the aspargus last week. The strawberries are riping but its so wet they are rotting or the birds are getting them first. Ocean Waves is such a great pattern for scraps
ReplyDeleteI love this block, and it looks especially good in your 30s fabrics. It will look amazing once you get it up to bed sized!
ReplyDeleteOh my! That's a lot of HST goodness! Love those thirties fabrics - such a bright summery palette! Thanks for linking up to #scraptastictuesday
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be one happy scrappy quilt! I'm envious that you are already reaping the benefit of your garden--we don't plant until after Memorial Day in zone 3 :-(

ReplyDeleteThat is a happy looking quilt in those 30's scraps. Love your block choice.
ReplyDeleteI was immediately drawn to your quilt. I love the colors and the pattern!
ReplyDeleteI love the ocean waves quilt design and one day I may make one myself. I love your happy, scrappy 30's version.
ReplyDeleteWonderful colors and pattern choice! You will be rewarded with a beautiful quilt for your patience!
ReplyDeleteLooking good and so much simpler than my failed attempt to do Bonnie's method. good job!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is going to be really lovely. I'm such a sucker for anything 1930ish, and this speaks to me. Me, too, about trying to balance the garden with sewing. My asparagus started to go to seed before I had the first round cut, and I haven't planted a thing yet. Off to buy a few plants today, and hopefully get them in the ground before fireworks on the 4th!

Bold, bright and beautiful! What a great way to use up your scraps.
