I went through my 2.5 inch green scraps and found enough long pieces (at least 22 inches) to make 15 Kaleidoscope blocks. These will finish at 8 inches.
Last year I made 12 inch Kaleidoscope blocks and the first few (and a couple since then)
Last year I made 12 inch Kaleidoscope blocks and the first few (and a few since then) had the "volcano effect"...middle of the block did not lay flat.
One of the tips I have found to eliminate the "volcano effect" is to be sure the tip of the ruler and the side of the ruler are lined up properly before cutting. If the outside of the block is not lined up exactly with the ruler (as seen here) that's usually okay (for my blocks). Every once in a while my seam allowance is a little off and I end up with a some buckling in the middle of the blocks and those I starch into submission.
In case you haven't guessed...green is the color of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Good tip on the Kaleidoscope ruler. I think we've all made a few volcanoes in our day.
ReplyDeletePretty blocks, and so many of them! Thanks for the tip about cutting.
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty blocks! You've got a lot done. I had to deal with a volcano yesterday that I received in a block swap. No more eruptions.
ReplyDeleteLovely blocks.
ReplyDeleteI love your green (and flat!) Kaleidoscopes!
ReplyDelete(I remember struggling with Lemoyne Star Volcanoes back in the day. (And by back in the day, I mean back in the day of pre-rotary cutter, so you traced around a cardboard template with a pencil, then cut out with scissors. Volcanoes were inevitable...))
I'm so happy for all these glorious rulers!
It's very hard to hold the ruler steady on squirmy mice.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! Love the one with the black cat. It just makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip and great blocks. You've certainly used up lots of greens.
ReplyDeleteFun kaleidoscope blocks - something about the green fabrics just make them sing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely selection of GREEN fabrics!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great RSC block! You had a lot of fun greens there.
ReplyDeleteLots of beautiful greens in those blocks.
