Basket Weaving 101
42 x 64
Hand quilted with various colors of perle #8
I won all of the blocks in this quilt from Block Lotto. These weave blocks were from October 2014.
These Banded Baskets were the November 2013 Block Lotto block. I almost wasn't going to make any because I had to applique the handles and I don't really like machine applique because I usually don't stay within the bounds of such small pieces. I'm glad I tried the hand appliqued handles and even gladder I won. I love basket blocks. (That brown/yellow basket is one of my own complete with applique handle). I have baskets enough for another project. I just thought a few of them would be fun in this quilt.
I pieced the batting together from pieces leftover from other quilts using zigzag stitch. The backing and binding were from my stash.
I will link up to Julie's Binding Blitz at the end of the month.
And speaking of basket weaving...I've made one basket in my life...about 15 or maybe even 20 years ago. I didn't like the process enough to make another. It's a divided basket. And I keep some of my old embroidery transfer, cutwork and old crochet edging patterns in it.
This was my May goal (#21) for A Lovely Year of Finishes.
It is a Q2 Finish Along Goal (#5) and I'll link up with the Finish Along at On the Windy Side at the end of the quarter in June.
I'm going to go Whoop! Whoop! it up at Confessions of a Fabric Addict
And because this WIP is now a Finish I'm linking up to WIPs Be Gone at A Quilting Reader's Garden.

Hi Cathy. I visit your blog often. I had to check out your big stitching with perle 8. I have been embroidering with perle 8. What fun, have you experienced it with a laundering for colorfastness? wondering ..... (g)
ReplyDeleteLOL, now I get it! Of course you needed baskets for your basket weave blocks. :D
ReplyDeleteThe quilting completely elevates this quilt -- it is a beauty. Great job!
I agree the baskets are perfect on this quilt. I'm so amazed at how quickly you hand quilt....amazed, I tell you.
ReplyDeleteThe basket weave blocks were not my faves but I LOVE what you did with the ones you won! And the row of Baskets just makes the quilt FUN! Good Going!

I just adore this quilt. How fresh it looks while combining tradition with scraps. Good on you! LeeAnna at not afraid of color
ReplyDeleteThank you for not having embedded comments~ I can't comment then. =) When I saw the bitty picture on the linky, I knew I would have to come see this one! I love any kind of basket and this one is so unusual. What a great way to use those block lotto wins. I haven't won in ages ... but I've hardly had time to make any, either! I donated those I made. It's always fun to be a winner. I love seeing what you did with yours!
ReplyDeleteLove everything about this quilt! It has everything a good quilt should have.:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever cute finish to the basket weave quilt. How lucky you were to win such a combo. The baskets really make the quilt unique. I saw your link today on RSC15, but had to comment on this quilt.
ReplyDeleteI just have to comment on your binding choice...it is a terrific finish to a very sweet quilt.
ReplyDeleteWow - I love the texture of the hand quilting so much.
