All of the blocks I made this week are made from 4.5 inch scraps. I had a pile of fabrics that were probably less than a fat quarter or fat eighth and cut them into 4.5 inch strips, 2.5 inch strips and 1.5 inch strips since those are the size of scraps I most often use.
Here are my four Dresdens. Every month my goal is to make four of them appliqued to a gray background. I will make one in all the color of the month, one in month's color plus complement, one in month's color and black/white and one in month's color plus white/black. In addition I am using polka dot centers surrounded by gray rick rack.
I keep forgetting to take photos of the process and some tips on how I make Dresdens...maybe next month.
Lest you be squeamish that I include spiders in my quilts...look up the symbolism of spiders in quilts and you will see that they are a symbol of good luck.
2 - 12 inch Broken Wheel Blocks.
Two sixteen inch Chevron blocks. I'll probably use these at the end of the year in donation quilts.
Two 12 inch HST blocks. I'll probably also use these at the end of the year in donation quilts.
Got scraps?
Use them up and show us what you've accomplished each ScrapHappy Saturday (an RSC linky party).
I love your Dresdens! It makes me want to try making some (but I will resist, at least for now!)
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying watching all your Dresdens come together. Dresden blocks are one of my favorite things to make and I can see you're going to have quite a beautiful collection by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought you included the spiders to feed the bats. As always, your combination of prints is such an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThese are SO happy and cheerful and . . . I just LOVE them!
ReplyDeleteI love your dresden plates and the zig zags oh my.
ReplyDeletethose Dresdans are great--is that gray rickrack I see in there??? Very nice selection of yellows in all your blocks. I am not a fan of spiders (but yours are cute!!)--altho they do eat nasty mosquitoes for us...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteEeeeew, spiders! At my house, they are a symbol of my rotten housekeeping, LOL! Love the sunny yellows in the chevrons, nice!
ReplyDeleteSuch cheery blocks! Still have your Dresden plate down as my favourite!
ReplyDeleteSo many pretty yellow scraps you have to play with! Love the dresden....I hope to make mine this week.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's because of that hoopla that the black and blue dress created but when I look at your Dresden plates I see purple background not gray. What a lovely collection of yellow blocks.
ReplyDeleteYour Dresden plates are awesome. Great job on using up so much yellows.
ReplyDeleteGreat spiders. Love the hedgehogs too -- I have the same ones in teal. Lots of great projects this week.
ReplyDeleteLovely bunch of blocks you have showcased. There's a heap of chopping & sewing in that lot. Love the Dresdens.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are all wonderful - I'm especially partial to this month's Dresdens!
ReplyDeleteI live all of your projects. Wonderful use of color.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Dresdens! I need to use up some of my yellows too.:)
ReplyDeleteLOVE your prints and blocks!
ReplyDeleteLove all your yellow blocks. I also enjoy using spiders in my work. Mostly in things for myself though, because I don't want to upset anyone else!
