I find myself overthinking layouts way too often, and when I see what others do, and the fun, scrappy effect they've gotten, I realize the overthinking was not productive at all! I know what you mean, you can fiddle around forever trying to ensure similar blocks are well spaced but when you sew them up there's always one which escaped the scrutiny.
