A Finish!

Teddy Bears
40 x 60

A donation quilt

I used a bunch of Teddy Bear themed 6.5 inch squares I've accumulated over the years from making other quilts.

The backing is a darker brown than shown here - a 100% cotton thrift store sheet in excellent condition and with a silky feel.   I quilted it on my DSM with some spiraly type things in a brown variegated machine quilting thread I found in a discount bin a long time ago. It was time to use it in this quilt.     I'm not good at quilting on my DSM but I try - I try for consistency of size and of space. I'm getting a lot better but have a long way to go.  Guess I need to make more quilts since I've heard practice makes perfect.

I'm also getting a lot better at sewing down machine binding on my DSM.   I can pretty much stay in the lines now.

I think your machine stitching is great! Don't think you need more practice, when would you find the time to make them anyway????

Your machine quilting is just fine, I like that you make your spirals larger so the quilt stays soft and comfy. I'm still working on getting machine binding down so it looks decent on both sides. Good job!

You are ahead of me on the machine quilting. I don't seem to have a machine that can drop the feed dogs so I could do FMQ. I would love to try it though, especially since straight line quilting with a walking foot is kind of boring. What kind of sewing machine do you have?

Your quilting looks pretty good from here! Certainly heaps better than mine!
I keep hearing about that practice-makes-you-better thing. I'm going to test that out this year!

These cold days are perfect for quilting. Congratulations on your finish and donation.

It's true, really. Practice makes you a better quilter. I don't think perfect is really attainable. But my FMQ quilting is much improved and I can't even say when it happened. Just suddenly the stitches were more even, there were fewer jerky places and everything seems to flow. And I'm quilting on a 30 year old mechanical Bernina, so don't give up.
Oh, and my spirals tend to look like ET heads, but most quilt recipients won't even notice.

Teddy's are cuddly. Someone will enjoy snuggling with that quilt!

Great job! Love the orange you used with the bears and your quilting is fantastic. Practice is definitely the key for improving FMQ, as with most skills in life. Keep up the great work 😀

Very cute quilt! Nice masculine colors that will appeal to a little boy. It might even be the same brown as his teddy bear :) I think you're getting really good, consistent spacing on your spirals and they are the right size for a snuggly quilt. It's so easy to get smaller and smaller motifs as the quilt progresses, at least I struggle with that!

This is adorable. Love that thread for it, too - couldn't be more perfect, and looks great on the back. It's really hard to keep scale consistent at the domestic, and this is a good job! And yep, the more you do, the easier it gets and smoother you'll feel your stitching is.
