Making Waves

I have two completely different Ocean Waves quilts in the works (aka UFOs).
I've made a few more blocks of each to add to my collections of blocks.

This Ocean Waves quilt was inspired by one I first saw at Q is for Quilter.   I found a pattern for it at Quilter's Cache but resized it to fit my 30s reproduction scraps which were mostly 2.5 inches.  It takes a lot of HSTs to make a BIG quilt. I use an Easy Angle ruler to cut my HSTs.  I've found this to be the best method for me to make HSTs.

I started making these when I was looking for something to do with a small box of waste triangles. I've named these blocks Confetti Waves. These blocks are the same dimensions as the Ocean Waves blocks above (16 inches finished) but I used waste triangles on the corners of 2.5 inch red squares as my HST substitute.

I think Ocean Waves will be queen sized and Confetti Waves will be twin sized (someday).

Just trying to use up scraps any which way I can.

I like them both, but really really like the confetti version! It tickles my mingy little heart!
I'm a fan of the easy angle for HSTs, too. Though I don't think I want to tackle an Ocean Waves, yet...

These are both so pretty, and what a wonderful way to use HSTs!

This is a wonderful block to use and I adore your red background especially. I keep eyeing this pattern--will no doubt jump in with both feet some day and start my own!

Both are wonderful scrap busters. Really like the different shapes and sizes in the Confetti Waves.

Two wonderful versions of a great block! I do like the one with red background, I haven't been brave enough yet to use red like that! Thanks for linking up to 'sew stitch snap SHARE'

I've always admired Ocean Waves quilts, and yours is very pretty. I've not seen one like your red one, but it is a very interesting use of scraps. You always are finding ways to use all kinds of scraps. You amaze me! ---"Love"

I'm another quilter who loves to see an Ocean Waves quilt. You're very brave to tackle two at once, both so very different and all those HST's - it would be interesting to count up just how many you cut!

Two great sets of blocks. I have an Easy Angle ruler but not used it yet. Must try it out. I like your expression "in the works " - sounds more business like than "UFO" which always seems more ethereal, less likely to happen as in Unidentified Flying Object ".
