In the Hoop (Only When It Is "Cool")

String Stars

I don't have air conditioning so don't usually hand quilt much in the summer. But we have had a few "cooler" days lately. After work I've come home on those days and taken my quilt out to the deck with a tall glass of freshly brewed iced tea (thanks to a thoughtful hubby)  and satisfied my craving for a little hand quilting.    I'm hand quilting String Stars (a BIG quilt made mostly from leftover quilt backings and other long strings) with navy perle #8.  Right now I'm quilting the Stars. I'm not sure what I'm going to do in those diamond shaped areas between the stars.

And as a bonus I get a fix of color and scents while out on the deck serenaded by birds.

Today it is raining but maybe later (after I make a couple of canners of pickled beets and make some wild black raspberry crumble for the grandkids for breakfast) I'll find some time to put in a few stitches.

I love your version of summer quilting - sounds so relaxing. We've just got the first sunny day for weeks, so I'm not wasting it inside, but if I had a deck and iced tea...

We don't have AC, either, but the house is partially earth-sheltered, so it's always cooler inside than out. (Well, in the summertime...)
But I do envy a nice shady deck and a glass of iced tea and a gorgeous quilt to work on! Enjoy!

Your quilt is beautiful. It's always nice, too, to see what other people's gardens look like!

That quilt is a favorite of mine, especially with the navy background! Hope you have a few cooler days to get some quilting done!

Your stitching is looking great! I feel your pain--no air conditioning here either!

What pretty flowers you have to look at while on your deck. Glad that you have had some cooler days so that you can quilt. We have been in the high 80s and low 90s this weekend and expecting much the same for the rest of the week. Thankfully, we have had central air for 30 years. One reason that we bought our house. Keep cool and enjoy your stitching.

Cool! The only down side is that your quilt got covered with spiders...oh wait...nevermind!

Looking good! We don't tend to have air con in houses in the uk (not much need of it) except today it would be very welcome. I'm glad you can get a bit of sewing done in the cooler evenings though.

I know what you mean about it being too hot for hand quilting a large quilt in the summer...
but on a cool evening with some ice tea... ahhhhhh perfection!
