Have You Heard of Wrap-A-Smile?

Last October Mollie of the Heartstrings  Quilt Project and Yahoo Group challenged us to make heartstring quilts in black and white.  I added a few polka dots and ended up with three tops 40x58.

I used some flannel with cats for the back and finally got them quilted and bound.

I am donating these to Wrap-A-Smile.     Wrap-A-Smile provides quilts for kids who undergo cleft lip/cleft palate surgery provided by Rotaplast.

Some of the hospitals where the operations take place on these Rotaplast Missions have no linens and the quilts cover the OR tables.

The hospitals have no electric warmers to keep the children warm after surgery so quilts are used.   And each child gets to take a quilt home after surgery - a home where often the quilt is the only item of value other than the family's cooking implements.

And what was in the grass under the clothesline?  One single crocus I almost missed.  Finally some sign of Spring. Whoop, whoop!

Speaking of Whoop, Whoop...I'm linking up to Confessions of a Fabric Addict where everyone Whoops it up on Fridays.

Good for you !!! I know the children will feel very special with their own quilt.
My grandaughter (who lives in an affluent community in the USA) had a terrible accident her foot was badly burned ( a hot water kettle dropped on her foot) she was rushed to the local hospital ER where she was given a project Linus blanket. The blanket is very special to her, the burn, the ER, the treatment were not pleasant but the gift of the blanket really helped her at that difficult time. And is continuing to comfort her now in her third week since the accident.
Children are precious from poor or rich areas thank you for making those quilts for the children

What gorgeous quilts! I love the pizzazz that the contrast colours give to the b and w - and so generous and thoughtful of you to be giving them to charity - food for the soul (both yours and the children who recieve them) - well done!

Beautiful! Striking! I make quilts for a group called Quilts from the Heart. I am lucky enough to be able to sew with others 4-6 days a week. I make quilts about the same size. Would you mind sharing an approximation of how much colored yardage each required? Thank you for the inspiration!

visiting from crazy mum quilts. I too listed a quilt finished for charity but no where near as stunning as these. What a worthy cause and it really highlights how much we have, warm hospitals, plentiful supply of linen, staff, food and care. Wow my heart goes out to places like this.

Those bright polka dots are perfect for the black and white strings. (I've been sewing with black and white (and red and orange) today too.
