By Hand, Not Machine

I just started working on a butterfly quilt in 30s reproduction fabrics that will hopefully look like my grandma's quilt I inherited. I finished 3 butterflies this week and hope to finish 3 each week. I'll be working on some more tonight.

I'm also working on embroidery on flour sack dishtowels for Christmas gifts which will be bundled with some crocheted dishcloths and homemade hotpads.
I'm always working on my Crazy Quilt Journal Project - Crazy Cravings, a lap quilt. This is the second 12 inch block I've finished in October which makes a total of 12 blocks so far (I think).

Yumm. Cookies. I tried to make them look like a stack of chocolate chip cookies.

One seam has feather stitch and bullions and the other some lace, french knots and some uneven pistil stitches.

Herringbone stitches on each side of the seam in some brown variegated DMC floss.

A variety of short seam finishes. I like the buttonhole stitch wheels with cast on stitch "petals" around the circumference.

More lace attached with variegated brown straight stitches to mimic the lines on the chocolate chip fabric.  And some half buttonhole wheels outlined in chain stitches.

These are some of my Slow Stitching Projects I work on by hand on Sunday evenings as well as a few minutes each day. After a stressful day at work it helps to relax.

If you are interested in some other slow stitching projects visit Slow Stitching Sunday at Kathy's Quilts.

I just love your crazy quilt. You inspire me to try one of these someday. Did I understand that you make blocks that will be sewn together later? Your butterflies look vintage, and that is meant as a compliment, great job!
