Pansies - Thoughts of You

My embroidery on Arlene's 6" pansy block- a RR on CQI. This was my first time making a pansy from ribbon and my first time doing the overcast stitch. I made three overcast stitch pansies on each of the 3 corners. Also included some silk ribbon and pansies embroidered from DMC. All throughout I did what I think is called the fern stitch with lazy daisies. I also embroidered the word "Thoughts" - the meaning of pansies.

With this RR we all agree to stitch part of a 6th block - a joint block. This was my part on Arlene's joint block.

What's Black, White and Red All Over?

A black, red and white snowball quilt that used to be a UFO! The 6 inch snowballs were part of a yahoo group swap.

Encrusted Mardi Gras Block

I really didn't know how to even start on this block. When I think Mardi Gras I think boobs and beads. Well the first think I added to the block was this mask. I strand of DMC overlaid with some glittery sulky. I didn't think I would ever get it done.

After further additions to the block it ended up looking like this - some beads, some streamers, but no boobs.

BBB RR Complete

This is my stitching on a Bee, Butterfly, Beetle RR block for Darlene.

And this is the entire block after everyone has added their stitching. It will be going home to Darlene soon.

Art Nouveau RR

My work on Carolyn's Art Nouveau block. Worked in single strand satin thread for the most part along with variegated DMC cotton thread.

Butterflies, Bees, Beetles

Although this was a bee, butterfly, beetle RR, Diane doesn't like butterflies. I hardly knew what to do since I entered this rr because I love butterflies. I embroidered a bunch of beetles and made some out of beads. I also made added a stumpwork ladybug. The wings are wired and satin stitched on felt and added to the block after that on top of a satin stitched body.

Janet made that big beetle out of padded fancy fabric and I made the rest of the little buggers.
And now Diane's block is finished as is my work with this RR.

Alder Tree Fairy

This is the end of my stitching on the flower fairy blocks in this RR. This is an Alder Tree Fairy. I tried to add leaves, seeds, catkins of the alder tree on Carolyn's block. I think the catkins should have been a little yellower instead of white so I added a little gold sulky but it doesn't look like it in the photo. The leaves are all raised leaf stitch. The seeds (or are they cones? ) are made of beads. I wasn't prepared for tree fairies in a flower fairy rr but rather enjoyed stitching on the two tree fairy blocks.

Have a Heart

This is part of my work on Juli L's Heart IV RR block. The block was in pink and red so I tried to bring the red down to this corner of the block.
And this was the pink I tried to add to the top of the block- a pink heart yoyo and bullion roses.
The beautiful lace was already on the block but I added some beads and french knots and the top seam treatment of fern stitch and beads. Again I tried to bring some of the red from other parts of the block down to the white corner. I also added a felt heart where many seams met.

And this is the total block after everyone did their work. Now it will be sent home to Juli. I hope she likes it.

And this is some of my work on Nicki's Heart block. I added all except for that beautiful butterfly seam treatment. Nicki had cross stitched a beautiful saying for the middle of the block and it looked like a deep purple which Candji also used when she added her heart so that's why I added the lavender colored hearts. She got a heart yoyo and spider web roses too, the heart in the corner and the lace I also added.

I also added this heart and butterflies. The color looks funky, I know.

And now the heart goes to Juli to finish up for Nicki.
